RALLY AT QUEEN’S PARK FOR ONTARIO’S BLACK BEARS
Bears are Ontarians too.
But we’re a destructive species, and need someone scary to project our pathologies onto.
Friends of bears will gather at noon on November 26 outside the Ministry of Natural “Resources” (99 Wellesley St. W). We have a huge black letter from the bears to deliver, to Premier Wynne and the Minster Mauro.
We’ll hold them to account for the slaughter, which they now seek to extend, ignoring their own science and the outrage of decent Ontarians.
Whatever the Rule on-paper, the Spring hunt leaves hundreds of bear orphans behind, to slowly starve.
Motherbear nor fatherbear should be hunted. Bears are Ontarians, were here long before the ‘Ontario’ was ever heard or spoke. The bearhunt should be reduced & banned, not extended.
But we need someone scary to project our pathologies onto.
Ontario’s black bears will do, says the MNR.
Under sway of the hunting lobby, they ignore their own scientists, stoke local fears of the roaming black behemoth – – – – when the fact is you can count on a hand and two fingers the fatal black bear attacks since 1901.
Attacks by humans on blackbears – – – these are uncountable and euphemized as “sport”, as “modern development”, as “a way of life”.
Under sway of one lobby- – – the men with guns among us- – – they’ll welcome to the hunt “non-residents” [read: cash-drunk Americans]; they’ll sell out our fellow Ontarians for U.S. dollars.
