Cleanup at Kew Beach
In honour of World Oceans Day approaching on June 8, we decided it is time to do a beach cleanup again! Please join us on Saturday, June 2 to do a shoreline cleanup at Kew Beach. Let’s help to keep our Toronto beaches clean!
We will have some gloves and trash bags available, but please bring your own if you have any.
The City of Toronto has provided us with these guidelines:
-Ensure receptacles on the beach are not overfilled.
-Do not pick up any sharp objects.
-Signs or advertising of any kind is not permitted.
-Absolutely no vehicles allowed on the beach or on the parkland.
Meetup point: near Kew Library
If you can’t meet at 11 a.m. but still want to join us, just look for us on the beach ?
Your beach cleanup photo could be featured on Sea Shepherd Conservation Society’s social media! From SSCS’s post:
World Oceans Day is June 8th and it’s just around the corner! With 8 million metric tons of plastic making its way into our oceans annually, we want to bring attention to preventing plastic pollution. Join Sea Shepherd Conservation Society for our #5ForTheOceans challenge and help us raise awareness of this critical issue plaguing our oceans.
Between today and June 8th, collect 5 pieces of trash (or more), post a photo with the hashtag #5ForTheOceans (wear your Jolly Roger for bonus points) and you may be featured on our social media outlets!
Can’t make it to the coast? Clean up the beach from the city! Trash makes its way into sewers and waterways that can eventually lead to the ocean. So, pick that plastic wrapper up off the sidewalk and grab that straw from the gutter; you’re helping clean the beach!
