Stop Old Growth Logging: Toronto Rally [Fairy Creek Solidarity]

June 12, 2021 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
British Columbia is in a struggle to protect some of the last and largest old growth trees in the world. Old growth forests are still clear cut at a rate of 150,000 hectares every year. Only 2% of high-productivity old growth remains in BC and the government has granted a license to harvest the last intact old growth valley on Vancouver Island.
As Canadians, we stand in solidarity with old growth forest defenders of Fairy Creek. We may not be able to defend the ancient trees on Pacheedaht territory (on Vancouver Island) in person, but we want to show that Canadians across the country support their cause. If it’s important to you that these trees remain standing, please show your support and let’s add our voices to the chorus.
WHAT TO BRING:
Signs, flags, noisemakers, drums, and energy! Invite your friends!
RULES:
Must wear a face mask and physical distance.
—————
The land Toronto sits on is part of the “Dish With One Spoon” territory, named for a treaty between the Anishinaabe, the Haudenosaunee, and the Mississaugas of the New Credit. Subsequent Indigenous Nations and peoples, settlers, and all newcomers have been invited into this treaty in the spirit of peace, friendship, and respect.
We extend our gratitude to the past, present, and future Elders and teachers who carry the knowledge of this land.
Using and participating in a land acknowledgement is a way to recognize the enduring presence and resilience of Indigenous peoples in this area since time immemorial. They are a reminder that we are all accountable to these relationships and are participants in the ongoing efforts of reconciliation.
