Vigil for 1500 Pigs

January 18, 2018 @ 8:00 am - 11:00 am

Join KW Animal Save and London Pig Save at the courthouse in Simcoe for a vigil for over 1500 pigs who died in one of the biggest cases of animal cruelty in Canadian history.

Help the public understand what happens when animals are considered property.

On February 17th, 2017, the OSPCA went to a farm in Langton owned by Benjamin Stein. Over 1500 pigs were found in a flooded barn, buried in manure, and with no access to food. Nearly 1300 pigs were already dead and 250 more were euthanized at the farm.

Benjamin Stein’s hearing will be at 9am; he has been charged with many offences, including failure to provide adequate food and water, failure to provide adequate and appropriate protection from the elements, including harmful temperatures and causing an animal to be in distress.

TIME & LOCATION:
8:00 AM – 11:00 AM: If you are able to provide transportation, please use this page to create discussion about carpooling. See above for the address of the courthouse.

WHAT TO BRING:
Bring signs and leaflets if you’d like (loving and peaceful messages only please) your camera, and your HEART. Please be sure to bring water and weather appropriate clothing.

PLEASE NOTE:
We are a love-based group who believe that we can achieve more through compassion than through force. We gather to show empathy for the animals, spread compassion, and raise awareness.

When the suffering of another creature causes you to feel pain, do not submit to the initial desire to flee from the suffering one, but on the contrary, come closer, as close as you can to him who suffers, and try to help him.” – Leo Tolstoy
