Vigil for Pigs Killed in Van Boekel Hog Farms Barn Fire

June 4, 2018 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Please join Toronto Pig Save, KW Animal Save, and London Pig Save at a vigil on Monday, June 4th at 7:30 pm, to mourn over 3,000 mother animals and their babies, burned alive on May 29th.

Thousands of pigs were trapped inside an Oxford County barn belonging to Eric Von Boekel. The Ontario Fire Marshal is investigating the fire.

Von Boekel famously had Anita Krajnc, the founder of Toronto Pig Save and The Worldwide Save Movement, charged for giving water to a thirsty pig who was suffering on one of his transport trucks bound for a slaughterhouse in 2015.

Krajnc was eventually acquitted of any wrongdoing, but many of the horrors of animal agriculture, climate damage, transportation violations, and slaughterhouses came out in a lengthy case that put the entire industry on trial.

Van Boekel was also convicted of environmental offenses in 1994 and 2011 for polluting nearby waterways, and given jail time and hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines.

Activists will gather to mourn the horrific lives of these mothers and babies imprisoned in this barn for their entire lives, and finally burned alive in a building that was not up to code for human animals, only for nonhuman and unvalued animals.
