SUMMARY:Newmarket No Ribs To Spare Outreach
DESCRIPTION:Ribfest season has begun. This time\, the cruelty rolls out to Newmarket. Let’s come together to spread some love\, compassion\, and awareness to individuals north of the city. We will be exposing the public to the horrors of animal agriculture through the use of thought-provoking signs/literature\, which will be made available to participants. Just bring water\, snacks\, sunscreen\, and your wonderful selves! Any amount of time you can devote is greatly appreciated. Animals need us to tell people that they don’t have any ribs to spare. Let’s help these folks make the connection that the “what” they’re eating was actually a “who”. \nFriday\, May 26 – 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.\nSaturday\, May 27 – 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. \nNote: Please check Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:AARA April Potluck and Movie - Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2014)
DESCRIPTION:Join AARA for our April Vegan Potluck and Movie \nIn honour of Britches and all the animals in labs we are going to screen “Rise of the Planet of the Apes.” We’re going to let the animals strike back!! \nBring a friend! They don’t have to bring food if they don’t feel up to it but please bring a friend to share this movie’s important message and our wonderful Vegan Food!! \n$3 cover (helps pay for the room\, and other expenses)\nDoors open at 12:30 pm\nMovie starts 2 pm (movie is 130 min/2 hours)\nBrief open discussion after the movie ~ 30min \nThirty years ago\, on April 20th 1985\, a monkey named Britches was rescued\, along with 1\,115 other animals\, from an animal experimentation facility at the University of California\, Riverside. He was five weeks old. He had been taken from his mother and was completely alone. Britches’ eyes were sewn shut and a device strapped to his head that emitted a high-pitched screech every few minutes. \nEvery day\, billions of other animals suffer to the degree that Britches did. The only unique thing about Britches’ story is that he was rescued. There remain millions of animals in laboratories in the U.S. and billions around the world who experience abuse\, cruelty\, and are murdered at the hands of humans. \nApril 20th is the anniversary of Britches’ rescue and it is the beginning of World Week for Laboratory Animal Liberation. To honour Britches\, to remember those who were not rescued\, and honour those currently trapped in labs\, please take time to pause on this anniversary. \nMovie Synopsis – “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” – A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace\, but it proves short-lived\, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.

SUMMARY:AARA's 3rd Have a Heart Don't Wear Fur Protest!!
DESCRIPTION:National Anti-Fur Day was started on Valentine’s Day\, 1989 by Action Volunteers for Animals members Stephanie Brown\, Merlin Andrews (RIP 1915-2013) and Don Roebuck to unite activists in Canada who are committed to local anti-fur campaigns. \n“Have a Heart\, Don’t Wear Fur” has been the main tagline but it’s not mandatory to use nor does this national event dictate the form of anti-fur demonstration that any person or group chooses to do on Valentine’s Day or the days leading up to it. \n2014 was AARA’s first year as a group and join the demo\, we had 7 protesters at the event\, and one crazy woman scream in our face. But we knew what we were doing was right!! \nJoin us again to stand up for what’s right!! We will be protesting out front of a Fur Coat tailor shop – Richmond Hill Furriers. This will be our third year there. They don’t like us being there but they don’t make too much of a fuss. \nHAVE A HEART AND DON”T WEAR FUR PROTEST!! \nRichmond Hill Furriers over 35 years of business at the same location http://www.richmondhillfurs.com/
