SUMMARY:Blood on your Hands: Toronto Action
DESCRIPTION:We are at a turning point in human history. \nIt’s becoming clearer every day that the Government isn’t capable of preventing climate breakdown and animal suffering. They are more concerned with getting us back to “normal” as rapidly as possible. \nBut it’s normal that is killing us. \nSo as the lockdown begins to ease\, we stand at the crossroads: \nA plant-based food system OR a broken food system. We have a choice.\nBail out people and the planet OR bail out the industries that are killing us. We have a choice.\nTrust the people OR trust a negligent government. We have a choice.\nMass extinction OR mass action. We have a choice.\n#PlantBasedFoodSystem\n#PreventFuturePandemics\n#NoGoingBack\n******************************************************\nWHY? To highlight the animal suffering and environmental effects of animal agriculture. Also\, to highlight the threat of future pandemics caused by animal agriculture. We can’t be silent any longer. \n WHEN? 12 noon (meet at 11.45am) on Saturday 11th July for 2 hours. \nWHERE? Nathan Phillips Square \n WHAT? Come alone\, wear a mask\, stand strictly 2 metres apart and send a message to our leaders – local\, regional and national – that we must rebuild for the vulnerable and the strong\, the young and the old\, for all beings\, together. \nYou can either hold a sign or stand with ‘blood’ on your hands. Some signs will be provided and designs will be made available to print at home. Otherwise you can make your own and write a message to the government\, such as:\n“ANIMALS BLEED FOR HUMAN GREED”\, “THE GOVERNMENT HAS BLOOD ON THEIR HANDS”\, “ANOTHER WORLD IS POSSIBLE”\, “CHANGE IS NOW”\, “PREVENT FUTURE PANDEMICS”\, “END ANIMAL FARMING”\, “PLANT-BASED FOOD SYSTEM NOW” etc. \n WHO? Everyone and every part of everyone\, standing separated\, but united in grief and hope.\nMESSAGING:\nThe government has blood on their hands and is responsible for the suffering and deaths of trillions of animals used for food every year.\nThe government is responsible for the destruction of habitats and climate change caused by animal agriculture.\nAnimal agriculture has been linked to the recent COVID-19 pandemic and may cause future pandemics.\nThese problems can be solved by transitioning to a plant-based food system. \nNote: In our messaging we aim to tell the truth\, boldly\, but non-violently. We avoid violence and aggression in our language and have a principle of no blame/no shame. We also focus on system change\, i.e. targeting Government & the industries of animal farming\, rather than individual change\, such as personal dietary choices. \n#PlantBasedFoodSystem\n#PreventFuturePandemics\n#NoGoingBack\n#AnimalRebellion \nArts – Placard designs will be made available to print at home. Otherwise you can make your own and write a message to the government (“ANIMALS BLEED FOR HUMAN GREED”\, “THE GOVERNMENT HAS BLOOD ON THEIR HANDS”\, “ANOTHER WORLD IS POSSIBLE”\, “CHANGE IS NOW”\, “PREVENT FUTURE PANDEMICS”\, “END ANIMAL FARMING”\, “PLANT-BASED FOOD SYSTEM NOW” etc).\n SOCIAL MEDIA: Please post photos of your local action and your ‘choice’ signs using the hashtags #PlantBasedFoodSystem\, #AnimalRebellion and #PreventFuturePandemics – Animal Rebellion UK Social Media will share and retweet them. \n

The situation is urgent\, and we need to act now\, and we need our governments to act now. \n“We have 12 years to limit climate change catastrophe\, warns UN”: The Guardian: https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2018/oct/08/global-warming-must-not-exceed-15c-warns-landmark-un-report \nIt may be worse than we think. \n“Scientists Have Been Underestimating the Pace of Climate Change“: Scientific American: https://blogs.scientificamerican.com/observations/scientists-have-been-underestimating-the-pace-of-climate-change/ \n___________________________________________________________________\nREBEL BEYOND BORDERS – INTERNATIONAL REBELLION\nIn October 2018\, we declared The Rebellion.\nIn April 2019\, we declared The Emergency.\nIn October 2019\, we will declare The Truth. \nStarting on Monday\, October 7th\, we are joining together as a global family in an International Rebellion as we grieve the suffering and destruction of our beautiful world. \nWe will gather with our communities across cities\, countries\, and continents\, to rise up and rebel for our deep love of life and the need to protect it.\n___________________________________________________________________ \nEXTINCTION REBELLION’S KEY DEMANDS\n1. Government must tell the truth by declaring a binding climate and ecological emergency\, and by working with other institutions to communicate the urgency for change.\n2. Government must act now to halt biodiversity loss and reduce greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2025.\n3. Government must create and be led by the decisions of a Citizens’ Assembly on climate and ecological justice.
