DESCRIPTION:Wishing Well Sanctuary has many volunteer days per month. DxE Toronto will be partnering with Wishing Well on this date to promote it by creating an event page for our community. Use the Facebook event page to see who may be going and to offer / ask for rides.  \nThere is no registration required for the work day. If you’d like to attend\, click “Going” to ensure you get any updates.  \nPlease keep in mind that this is a work day\, and while there will be time to visit with the animals if they are in the mood\, this is also their home and we are going to help with whatever they/their caregivers need. Please come prepared to work.  \nFor information about other volunteer dates – http://www.wishingwellsanctuary.org/volunteer.php \nWHAT TO BRING- Bring a vegan lunch\, a reusable water bottle and clothes & shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty—Wishing Well supplies the pitch forks\, gloves and tools. The work is mainly outdoors\, so check the weather forecast for Bradford Ontario\, and wear rugged shoes. This work date is rain or shine although we do not work in thunder. If thunder starts\, unfortunately we will be forced to cancel the work day. Dress for the weather and consider including rubber boots\, a hat\, gloves\, sunglasses (eye protection)\, sunscreen\, and insect repellant to your “work day kit” —you may want a bug net for your head. \nNo open toed shoes please! \nNo pets please! We’re all animal lovers here\, but this is for the safety of everyone involved.

DESCRIPTION:Come and join us for our 4th Annual 5k Fundraising Walk with your friends\, family and furry friends! This year our 5K Walk will be held on Sunday September 29 at 10am\, starting at Pet Valu Market Markham at 3987 Highway 7 East. There will be multiple vendors and non-profit groups at the 5K Walk event. \nThis annual event helps to raise the much-needed funds for educational programs\, outreach initiatives\, advocacy campaigns and on-the-ground rescue work that we know are crucial to driving change for the welfare and treatment of animals. Proceeds from the Walk will be donated to Animals Asia\, The Save Movement and Zoocheck. \n\nAnimals Asia who rescue and provide critically needed veterinary care to moon bears that are being used in the bear bile industry. The funds will go to support their two sanctuaries in Vietnam and China that provide a permanent home to the moon bears who cannot be released into the wild. It will also go towards helping to end the cruel cat and dog meat and fur trade in Asia\n\n\nThe Save Movement is a worldwide network of groups dedicated to bearing witness of pigs\, cows\, chickens and other farmed animals en route to slaughter. Every year\, over 56 billion farmed animals are killed and this does not include fish or sea creatures. Their goals include raising awareness about the plight of farmed animals by bearing witness to animals en route to slaughter worldwide\, promoting a vegan\, grassroots animal justice movement\, to expand the number of Save Movement groups across the globe\n\n\nZoocheck is a Canadian-based international wildlife protection charity devoted to promoting and protecting the welfare of wild animals. We have tasks for every ability and or desire\, but nothing so bad that you wouldn’t want to come back ?\n– stall mucking / fresh straw\n-duck house clean (fresh wood chips\, scraping down their perches\, cleaning bowls )\n– chicken coop refresh (new wood chips\, scraping down perches\, cleaning bowls )\n– planting flowers and veggies along the duck house exterior wall\n– washing bowls\n-filling feed bins\n– possibly some painting\n– cuddling pigs\, chickens\, sheep and cats (goats at your own risk ?)\n– we’d also love to make the coops more exciting\, so if you have ideas and can execute them\, let’s try! \nAlmost all the animals at Karuna Lane appreciate visitors\, but not all will want to interact. We find it better to let them come to you\, should they choose ? we will ensure plenty of time to get to know them ? \nPot Luck \nBecause there will be guests in the cabin that weekend\, we won’t be able to access the kitchen to prep food ? \nHowever\, there is a fridge in the barn and many outlets if someone brings an item that needs to be heated in a crockpot. \nPlease bring a vegan item (no milk\, eggs\, cheese\, animal body parts\, or honey) to share. Even better would be to bring your own plate and cutlery – we will set up a washing station! \nIf helpful\, feel free to list what you are bringing below or just surprise everyone! \nAlthough we won’t have access to the house\, there is an outhouse (a cute one) for people to use\, and lots of shady spots to take breaks\, if needed. \nPlease wear weather appropriate clothing\, sun protection\, and keep yourself hydrated ? \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.
