SUMMARY:Toronto Chicken Save Vigil
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a vigil for chickens at the Maple Leaf slaughterhouse in Toronto. \nPlease be aware that 2 trucks arrive (normally at the same time) and we bear witness to those 2 trucks. They can come anytime between 7:30pm – 9pm so we suggest activists arrive around 7:30pm so they don’t miss the trucks. \nThis is a love-based event. There are safety protocols put into place by both us and the slaughterhouse. Feel free to bring your own signs and please dress accordingly.

SUMMARY:Fearman's Truth Bombs @ the Intersection
DESCRIPTION:Fearman’s slaughterhouse is located at a busy intersection\, many people drive by not even knowing what it is and that Fearman’s kills 40\,000+ 4-6 month pigs each and every week. \nThese pigs enter the slaughterhouse terrified\, injured\, sick\, trapped\, thirsty\, suffering and sometimes dead and the people of Burlington need to know their tragic plight from birth to slaughter. They also need to know about our beloved friend and fellow activist Regan Russell that was struck down and killed by a slaughterhouse truck driver on June 19th. Regan was an amazing\, strong and beautiful human that would still be alive today if Fearman’s worked with us for a safety agreement to bear witness which they have refused even though Halton Police tried to get them to the table in 2019. \nWe spread out at the 4 corners at the Intersection at Appleby Line and Harvester Road. We hold signs\, sticker\, leaflet\, use the megaphone to raise awareness for the horrible injustice that happens in this horrific building each and every day and in all factory farms and slaughterhouses all around the world. \nThere may be an opportunity to bear witness on the median when the trucks are stopped at the red light but that is not always possible. Nobody is obligated to try and bear witness but some of us will given the opportunity. If you are on the median there are some safety rules that we will provide you. \nSigns\, stickers and leaflets are provided but feel free to bring your own.\nHope to see you there\, the animals need us! 💜 \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:Toronto Cow Save Vigil for the Cows
DESCRIPTION:*****************************\nIMPORTANT:\nA section of Bill 156 has taken effect prohibiting us to interfere or stop trucks. We do not forcefully stop trucks at these vigils anyway\, and don’t normally “interfere” but we do ask drivers to give us a few minutes with the cows prior to backing in. Some do\, some don’t. With a peaceful presence\, we hope they will continue to do so. Please come with peace to change the violent\, dark energy of this area of Toronto.\n********************************\nPlease join us for a vigil to bear witness to\, and to speak up for\, the hundreds of cows\, calves\, and lambs whose lives are needlessly and violently stolen from them daily at St. Helen’s slaughterhouse in Toronto.\nPlacards\, leaflets\, support are provided.\nPARKING: Please park in the parking lot of the Stock Yards Village shopping complex\, a 1 minute walk from the vigil site. There is no parking at the vigil and tickets are being issued.\n——————————-\nPlease read these vigil and safety notes prior to attending.\n Keeping Toronto Cow Save vigils peaceful.\n1) Peace:\nThe purpose of Toronto Cow Save vigils is to bear witness\, to see the reality\, to connect\, to document\, then to share with others. To bring peace to a violent space. Disruptions can take place at a different time.\n2) Truck Drivers:\nMany drivers are now voluntarily giving us time to bear witness. This is due to building a place of respect over a long period of time. Though we know what they do for a living is wrong\, we remain respectful to the drivers for giving us this time to expose to the world the reality of farmed animals. We are not there to attack individuals\, but a whole system.\n3) Slaughterhouse Workers:\nSome workers may try to taunt (though rarely anymore). Offer a wave or peace sign instead of engaging in a negativity. Break the cycle of violence.\n Bearing witness on the sidewalk side of the truck:\n1) Stress for animals:\nWhen the cows are surrounded\, they may panic. Most have not had positive human interactions in their short lives and may see us as danger. Let’s not cause any added stress to these beings than they already have.\n2) Your safety:\nGlen Scarlett Road is extremely busy with transport trucks and other large vehicles. When bearing witness\, we are often not actively paying attention to our surroundings and tragedy could happen.\n🙋‍ Keep Arms out of the truck:\nWe’ve experienced a few serious injuries from vigil attendees putting hands/arms into the truck. Please avoid the temptation to reach inside for the following reasons:\n1) The truck may suddenly move\, trapping/taking you with it.\n2) Cows are extremely large and heavy beings. Though they may not intend to hurt\, a human arm may frighten them and simple movement can crush or break bones. Instead\, offer your hand just at the opening of the truck. Some cows will choose to come to you and sniff/lick your hand.\n3) Fear. Many of these beings have not known kind human hands in the past. This may cause them stress.\n Moving away from the truck:\nThe driver will often beep his horn when it’s time to back away or we will let you know. At that time we must (very\, very sadly) move away from the truck\, for your safety and to allow the driver space to back up. This is what they’ve agreed upon to voluntarily give us this time to bear witness. Not giving them the safe space may\, sadly\, break our agreement and end our ability to bear witness. Until we have a mass movement to free our friends\, this is what we must do to help them.\n Thank you for your understanding and for coming to bear witness and to be their voice. Please bring a friend. They desperately need you

SUMMARY:Toronto Pig Save vigil challenging the secrecy of ag-gag Bill 156
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for our weekly vigil this Wednesday\, September 2\, 9-10:30 am. The Conservative Ontario Ford government is putting into force two clauses of the infamous ag-gag Bill 156 that specifically targets bearing witness to animal victims in front of slaughterhouses. We will continue to not look away and flee from a suffering creature but rather\, as Leo Tolstoy stated\, come close\, as close as we can to her\, and try to help. \nRead: https://www.thesudburystar.com/news/local-news/ontario-bill-prohibiting-animal-rights-activists-from-interfering-with-livestock-transport-takes-effect-wednesday/wcm/611a6702-e4c2-4ffa-bc4a-892f2dea46d7 \nPlease read these vigil and safety notes prior to attending. \n Keeping Save Movement vigils peaceful. DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a protest in front of African Lion Safari on August 22nd\, 2020 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. We will be gathering on public property near the main entrance where we will hold signs and hand out leaflets to spread awareness. Leaflets will be provided but please bring a sign if you are able to. \nAfrican Lion Safari has been in operation since 1969. They are housing over 1000 exotic animals to be viewed for human entertainment. These animals include but are not limited to lions\, tigers\, elephants\, rhinos\, monkeys\, sheep\, and zebras. \nThese individuals deserve to be released to sanctuaries that can provide the best care for them. SUMMARY:Toronto Cow Save Vigil for the Cows
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a vigil to bear witness to\, and to speak up for\, the hundreds of cows\, calves\, and lambs whose lives are needlessly and violently stolen from them daily at St. Helen’s slaughterhouse in Toronto. \nPlacards\, leaflets\, support are provided. \nPARKING: Please park in the parking lot of the Stock Yards Village shopping complex\, a 1 minute walk from the vigil site. There is no parking at the vigil and tickets are being issued.\n——————————- \nPlease read these vigil and safety notes prior to attending.👇 \n☮️ Keeping Toronto Cow Save vigils peaceful. \n1) Peace:\nThe purpose of Toronto Cow Save vigils is to bear witness\, to see the reality\, to connect\, to document\, then to share with others. To bring peace to a violent space. Disruptions can take place at a different time. \n2) Truck Drivers:\nMany drivers are now voluntarily giving us time to bear witness. This is due to building a place of respect over a long period of time. Though we know what they do for a living is wrong\, we remain respectful to the drivers for giving us this time to expose to the world the reality of farmed animals. We are not there to attack individuals\, but a whole system. \n3) Slaughterhouse Workers:\nSome workers may try to taunt (though rarely anymore). Offer a wave or peace sign instead of engaging in a negativity. Break the cycle of violence. \n🚍 Bearing witness on the sidewalk side of the truck: \n1) Stress for animals:\nWhen the cows are surrounded\, they may panic. Most have not had positive human interactions in their short lives and may see us as danger. Let’s not cause any added stress to these beings than they already have. \n2) Your safety:\nGlen Scarlett Road is extremely busy with transport trucks and other large vehicles. When bearing witness\, we are often not actively paying attention to our surroundings and tragedy could happen. \n🙋‍ Keep Arms out of the truck: \nWe’ve experienced a few serious injuries from vigil attendees putting hands/arms into the truck. Please avoid the temptation to reach inside for the following reasons: \n1) The truck may suddenly move\, trapping/taking you with it. \n2) Cows are extremely large and heavy beings. Though they may not intend to hurt\, a human arm may frighten them and simple movement can crush or break bones. Instead\, offer your hand just at the opening of the truck. Some cows will choose to come to you and sniff/lick your hand. \n3) Fear. Many of these beings have not known kind human hands in the past. This may cause them stress. \n🚛 Moving away from the truck: \nThe driver will often beep his horn when it’s time to back away or we will let you know. Until we have a mass movement to free our friends\, this is what we must do to help them. \n❤️🐄🐑❤️ Thank you for your understanding and for coming to bear witness and to be their voice. Please bring a friend. They desperately need you. \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

\n🚛 Moving away from the truck: \nOur awesome safety guide\, Ian\, will blow a whistle when our time is up to bear witness or the driver will beep his horn. Until we have a mass movement to free our friends\, this is what we must do to help them. \n❤️🐄🐑❤️ Thank you for your understanding and for coming to bear witness and to be their voice. Please bring a friend. They desperately need you \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:Justice for Regan - Rally at Halton Police Station
DESCRIPTION:We are disappointed with the decision of the Halton Police to charge the driver with Careless Driving Causing Death under the Highway Traffic Act\, a non-criminal charge. We ask the Halton Police how they can reconcile their decision with eyewitness statements at the scene. We ask the Halton Police to reconsider their decision. We demand that the police release the video of the incident. \n—-\nAnimal Save Movement responds to charges brought against killer of Regan Russell: “Feeble and do not amount to justice” \nAnimal Save Movement today condemned the Halton Regional Police Service for bringing charges of Careless Driving Causing Death against the driver of a pig transport truck in the June 19 death of Regan Russell. \nRussell was attending a special Toronto Pig Save vigil to protest Ontario’s passage of the unconstitutional “ag-gag” Bill 156 just two days prior\, and had been giving water to dehydrated pigs on one of the hottest days of the year. \n“These charges are feeble and do not amount to justice for Regan. Enough is enough – how many more lives will be lost at the hands of Sofina and Fearmans before they agree to a safety policy?” said Anita Krajnc\, co-founder of Animal Save Movement. “They’ve rejected these calls far too long and have Regan’s blood on their hands – we will not rest until Bill 156 is repealed.” \nAnimal Save Movement demands the release of video footage obtained by police that show the incident\, so that it can be independently reviewed. \nRussell\, 65\, was a pioneer of Canada’s animal rights movement and had peacefully campaigned on behalf of animals for more than 40 years. On June 19th an unnamed 28-year-old male drove a pig transport truck into Russell outside Sofina’s Fearmans slaughterhouse in Burlington. \nThe Powell family said\, “We are disappointed by the lack of criminal charges\, and would like respect and time in digesting this information.” \n“Today’s charges must be upgraded to reflect the death of a kind and gentle soul who did no wrong\,” said PETA President Ingrid Newkirk. “Regan Russell spent her last moments on Earth showing kindness to animals\, and everyone can honour her memory by going vegan.” \nBackground\nOn June 19\, Russell was participating in a peaceful vigil outside Sofina-owned Fearmans slaughterhouse when she was struck and violently killed by a pig transport truck. Earlier at the Toronto Pig Save vigil she had been providing water to pigs on a scorching-hot day\, along with six other activists. \nRegan was standing at the slaughterhouse entrance when the driver unexpectedly accelerated\, turning in Russell’s direction and ending her life. This took place two days after “ag-gag” legislation in the form of Bill 156 was approved by the Ontario government\, following months of extensive lobbying by meat\, dairy\, egg\, and other animal industries.. \nThere’s a long history of reckless driving from truckers. Toronto Pig Save called for safety protocols to be implemented after vigil attendees were nearly hit by trucks on a number of occasions and launched a Change.org petition demanding a safety agreement (“Michael Latifi [owner of Sofina’s Fearmans pig slaughterhouse]: Stop endangering activists! Negotiate a safety agreement at Fearmans now!”). \nAnimal Save Movement demands that the Ontario government immediately repeal Bill 156\, and replace it with a Regan Bill of Animal Rights that would protect the rights of protestors to demonstrate safely; defend whistleblowers\, journalists\, and others who document animal suffering; recognize the personhood of pigs and other animals; defund animal agriculture; and invest in plant-based food systems in Ontario. \n###\nAnita Krajnc: anita.krajnc@animalsavemovement.org    www.justiceforreganrussell.com\nShane Martinez\, criminal lawyer for Toronto Pig Save: shane@martinezlaw.ca\nMedia files: Photos of Regan Russell: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1tT3Dq2oPJjeITcc6UXDAH0oGBXTOsQ-r?usp=sharing

SUMMARY:Repeal Bill 156: Justice for Regan
DESCRIPTION:A peaceful protest will be held at Premier Doug Ford’s residence\, as we continue to fight for Regan Russell who was killed by a transport truck carrying pigs into Sofina’s Fearmans slaughterhouse. \nUnder the Ford Government: Bill 156 has passed\, which conceals abuse on factory farms and transport trucks carrying animals to slaughter. Not only are the lives of farmed animals not protected here in Ontario but the bill is meant to silence whistleblowers from exposing any type of abuse that has been documented. Regan\, just like many in Ontario want to see this bill abolished\, as there is no room in society for animal abuse\, of any kind. \nBill 156 also gives animal agriculture a free pass to assault and cause harm to those trying to protect animals. Regan’s death may in part have been the result of that. \nOur goal is to demand that Mr. Ford convert Bill 156 into Regan’s law\, which protects farmed animals from abuse as well as the whistleblowers who expose the suffering of animals. Mr. Ford needs to know what Regan Russell stood for and how Bill 156 has failed her. \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.
