SUMMARY:Toronto Cow Save Weekly Vigil
DESCRIPTION:Don’t look away from their suffering.\nBear witness then get active to help them. \nPlease join us to bear witness to\, and to speak up for\, the hundreds of cows\, calves\, and lambs whose lives are needlessly and violently stolen from them daily at St. Helen’s slaughterhouse in Toronto. \nPlacards\, leaflets\, support are provided. \nPARKING: Please park in the parking lot of the Stockyards shopping complex\, a 1 minute walk from the vigil site. There is no parking at the vigil and tickets are being issued.\n——————————- \n👇 Please read these vigil and safety notes prior to attending. 👇 \n☮️ Keeping Toronto Cow Save vigils peaceful. \n1) Peace:\nThe purpose of Toronto Cow Save vigils is to bear witness\, to see the reality\, to connect\, to document\, then to share with others. To bring peace to a violent space. Disruptions can take place at a different time. \n2) Truck Drivers:\nMany drivers are now (incredibly) voluntarily giving us time to bear witness. This is due to building a place of respect over a long period of time. Though we know what they do for a living is wrong\, we remain respectful to the drivers for giving us this time to expose to the world the reality of farmed animals. We are not there to attack individuals\, but a whole system. \n3) Slaughterhouse Workers:\nSome workers may try to taunt (though rarely anymore). Offer a wave or peace sign instead of engaging in a negativity. Break the cycle of violence. \n🚍 Bear witness on the sidewalk side of the truck (for two reasons): \n1) Stress for animals:\nWhen the cows are surrounded\, they may panic and try to flee causing a stampede. Most have not had positive human interactions in their short lives and may see us as danger. Let’s not cause any added stress to these beings than they already have. \n2) Your safety:\nGlen Scarlett Road is extremely busy with transport trucks and other large vehicles. When bearing witness\, we are often not actively paying attention to our surroundings and tragedy could happen. \n🙋‍ Keep Arms out of the truck: \nWe’ve experienced a few serious injuries from vigil attendees putting hands/arms into the truck. Please avoid the temptation to reach inside for the following reasons: \n1) The truck may suddenly move\, trapping/taking you with it. \n2) Cows are extremely large and heavy beings. Though they may not intend to hurt\, a human arm may frighten them and simple movement can crush or break bones. Instead\, offer your hand just at the opening of the truck. Some cows will choose to come to you and sniff/lick your hand. \n3) Fear. Many of these beings have not known kind human hands in the past. This may cause them stress. \n🚛 Moving away from the truck: \nOur awesome safety guide\, Ian\, will blow a whistle when our time is up to bear witness. At that time we must (very\, very sadly) move away from the truck\, for your safety and to allow the driver space to back up. This is what they’ve agreed upon to voluntarily give us this time to bear witness. Not giving them the safe space may\, sadly\, break our agreement and end our ability to bear witness. Until we have a mass movement to free our friends\, this is what we must do to help them. \n❤️🐄🐑❤️ Thank you for your understanding and for coming to bear witness and to be their voice. Please bring a friend. They desperately need you. \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:Toronto Pig Save Weekly Vigil
DESCRIPTION:Don’t turn away. Please join us to bear witness and speak up for\, the ten thousands of baby pigs whose lives are needlessly and violently stolen from them daily at Fearmans slaughterhouse. \nPlacards\, leaflets\, support are provided.\n——————————- \nPlease read these vigil and safety notes prior to attending. \n☮️ Keeping Save Movement vigils peaceful. \n1) Bear witness:\nThe purpose of Save Movement vigils is to bear witness\, to try and help and give water to thirsty animals\, to see the reality\, to connect\, to document\, to share with others\, and to expose a violent space. We occasionally disrupt trucks at all day vigils when we have the numbers. \n2) Truck Drivers:\nMany drivers are now voluntarily giving us time to bear witness after having used a very love-based approach at the vigils by talking to workers. We also have a worker helpline for those who wish to leave this violent industry. Some slaughterhouse workers may try to taunt. Offer a wave or peace sign instead of a negative reaction. Break the cycle of violence. \n3) Avoid causing stress for animals:\nWhen the pigs are surrounded\, they may panic and try to flee causing a stampede. Most have not had positive human interactions in their short lives and may see us as danger. Let’s not cause any added stress to these beings than they already have. Fear. SUMMARY:Toronto Cow Save Vigil - STOP Bill 156
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a special vigil to speak up against Bill 156. The Ontario PC Party is trying to quickly push this bill through before anyone is even aware of it. If passed\, this bill would make it illegal for you or I to take photos\, video\, or expose the suffering of farmed animals. Animal agriculture\, already\, almost entirely hides what is happening to animals from public view and this law will push their suffering even further into the darkness. Ag-gag laws such as this\, in the U.S.\, have been stuck down as unconstitutional. Join us to be their voice and say No!

Fear. Many of these beings have not known kind human hands in the past. This may cause them stress. \n4) Your safety:\nHarvester Road is extremely busy with transport trucks and other large vehicles. The more people who bear witness\, the greater impact we will have in ending animal agriculture. The animals desperately need you and our entire community. \nPlease Note: Sometimes we are at the slaughterhouse gate and sometimes we are at the intersection of Appleby Line and Harvester Road on the traffic median so if you don’t find us at one location\, please walk over to the other. \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:Toronto Cow Save Weekly Vigils
Please avoid the temptation to reach inside for the following reasons: The truck may suddenly move\, trapping/taking you with it. Pigs are extremely large and heavy beings. Though they may not intend to hurt\, a human arm may frighten them and simple movement can crush or break bones. Instead\, offer your hand just at the opening of the truck. Some pigs will choose to come to you and sniff/lick your hand. \n🚛 Move away from the truck once the trucks starts moving \n❤️🐷❤️ Thank you for bearing witness. Please bring a friend. The more people who bear witness\, the greater impact we will have in ending animal agriculture. The animals desperately need you and our entire community. \nPlease Note: Sometimes we are at the slaughterhouse gate and sometimes we are at the intersection of Appleby Line and Harvester Road on the traffic median so if you don’t find us at one location\, please walk over to the other \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:Toronto Pig Save Monthly Vigil for the Pigs
DESCRIPTION:Don’t turn away. Please join us to bear witness to\, and to speak up for\, the thousands of baby pigs whose lives are needlessly and violently stolen from them daily at Fearman’s slaughterhouses. \nPlacards\, leaflets\, support are provided.\n——————————- \nPlease read these vigil and safety notes prior to attending. \n☮️ Keeping Save Movement vigils peaceful. \n1) Peace:\nThe purpose of Save Movement vigils is to bear witness\, to see the reality\, to connect\, to document\, then to share with others. To bring peace to a violent space. Disruptions can take place at a different time. \n2) Truck Drivers:\nMany drivers are now (incredibly) voluntarily giving us time to bear witness. This is due to building a relationship over a long period of time. Though we don’t respect what they are doing for a living\, let’s respect the drivers for giving us this time to show the world the plight of farmed animals. \n3) Slaughterhouse Workers:\nSome workers may try to taunt (though rarely anymore). Offer a wave or peace sign instead of a negative reaction. Break the cycle of violence. \n? Bear witness on the sidewalk side of the truck (for two reasons): \n1) Stress for animals:\nWhen the pigs are surrounded\, they may panic and try to flee causing a stampede. Most have not had positive human interactions in their short lives and may see us as danger. Let’s not cause any added stress to these beings than they already have. \n2) Your safety:\nHarvester Road is extremely busy with transport trucks and other large vehicles. When bearing witness\, we are often not actively paying attention to our surroundings and tragedy could happen. \n?‍ Keep Arms out of the truck: \nWe’ve experienced a few serious injuries from vigil attendees putting hands/arms into the truck. Though they may not intend to hurt\, a human arm may frighten them and simple movement can crush or break bones. Instead\, offer your hand just at the opening of the truck. Some pigs will choose to come to you and sniff/lick your hand. \n3) Fear. Many of these beings have not known kind human hands in the past. This may cause them stress. \n? Moving away from the truck: \nOur awesome safety guide will blow a whistle when our time is up to bear witness. \n❤️?❤️ Thank you for your understanding and for coming to bear witness and to be their voice. Please bring a friend. They desperately need you. \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:Emergency Rally to STOP BILL 156
DESCRIPTION:Emergency rally as Animal Ag tries to rush through BILL 156. \nShow up for the animals at Queen’s Park as the Ontario government debates Bill 156 in its Second Reading on December 10th. \nThe animal agriculture industry is fighting back\, and the Ontario government has been pressured to pass Bill 156 to criminalize the important work carried out by animal rights activists\, such as documenting and exposing the horrific realities of animal exploitation. \nWe must be present to let the politicians know that we will oppose this bill every step of the way. Our rights and freedoms depend on it. The lives of animals depend on it. Join us! \nThere will be two different ways you can participate in this action: \n1. Enter the Public Galleries as a visitor:\nPlease refer to this document for information on building access\, ID (government-issued photo identification) and screening requirements.\nhttps://www.ola.org/en/visit-learn/building-access\nIf going to the public galleries\, please check in with the information officer at the main entrance (south side of the building facing University Avenue) who will direct you. Do NOT join or meet with the protesters. Please dress professionally and just observe\, to see how the vote goes. No demonstrations are allowed inside the gallery. \n2. Protest Outside Legislative Building:\nPlease meet near the south side of the building\, just north of College Street/Queen’s Park subway station. \n

SUMMARY:Brampton Chicken Save Morning Vigil & Outreach
DESCRIPTION:Please join Brampton Chicken Save for our weekly vigil held in Brampton\, ON to bear witness and outreach to the public. \nMaple Lodge is located right near access to busy highways 35 minutes away from Toronto. We have an opportunity to educate those around us about over 500\,000 lives that are stolen every single day at North America’s largest chicken murdering facility. \nThey are the only chicken slaughterhouse legally allowed to kill the three-year-old “spent hens” driven all the way from as far as Ohio and Pennsylvania. Join us in raising awareness and offer compassion and love to those being sent to murder. \nPARKING:\nPlease do not park on the tarmac in front of the gate\, it is the sole request of the security. At the lights right outside of Maple Lodge we have been given permission by the farmer to park our cars on the outside of his field located across the road. \nWHAT TO BRING:\n– handmade signs\n(we have some to provide but encourage you to get creative!)\n– camera/video recording device\n– weather appropriate clothing \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:Contact and meet MPPs to stop Ontario Ag-Gag Bill 156
DESCRIPTION:Please contact and meet with your Member of Provincial Parliament to oppose the proposed Ag-Gag Bill 156 (Security From Trespass and Protecting Food Safety Act) \nFind your Ontario MPP here: https://www.ola.org/en/members/current \nSpeaking points: \nThe Conservative government’s proposed Bill 156 (Security From Trespass and Protecting Food Safety Act) is a dangerous piece of legislation that would hide animal abuse and prevent animal activists from performing their vital role in exposing the horrific treatment of farmed animals. Trespassing laws already exist in Ontario\, therefore we have to ask what else does the government\, farmers and animal ag workers have to hide that has precipitated this Bill. \nCertain provisions of ag-gag Bill 156 specifically target animal rights groups like Toronto Pig Save and a dozen other Save groups in Ontario that are part of the global Animal Save Movement. These law abiding activists peacefully bear witness to farmed animals outside slaughterhouses\, provide water to animals\, and document their suffering. \nIt would also require explicit prior consent to access an “animal protection zone” on a farm or “food processing” slaughterhouse facility. According to Animal Justice lawyer Camille Labchuk\, the other things the bill does that should be concerning for activists include extending the time in which charges can be laid from 6 months to two years; allowing for civil actions to recover damages against activists; allowing farmers to recover full costs against activists in the case of private prosecutions against activists. Bill also lets the government designate other areas as “animal protection zones” which it will likely use in the future to designate labs\, zoos etc. \nThere is absolutely no evidence of farmers\, workers\, or animals being harmed by activists\, or of any violations or threats to food security. \nBearing witness at locations where animals are exploited\, abused\, and slaughtered is a Canadian right of freedom of expression. Activists have a right to interact with animals such as pigs\, cows\, and others on public property. \nBill 156 is one-sided and does not reflect the concern the majority of Ontarians have for farmed animals. This proposed bill must be stopped\, and instead the government should be increasing the ability of activists to expose exploitation and suffering of farmed animals. \nThe benefit of animal vigils are: \nBearing witness at animal vigils helps participants and the public see firsthand the individuality of the animals and has helped thousands of people shift to a plant based diet\, as well as do their civic duty and get active in animal justice movements \nAnimal vigils at slaughterhouses create mass awareness through viral social media. \nOur vigils at Fearmans slaughterhouse have exposed pigs literally dying of thirst\, heat stroke and heart attacks during extreme heat waves. This Toronto Pig Save video has 19 million views\, demonstrating the intense public interest. \nAt Toronto Cow Save vigils we have shared the painful injuries of cows arriving at slaughterhouses. In this video a cow arrives at the slaughterhouse after ripping his horn off during transport. Blood is streaming down his face. This video was reported to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) who responded that there was no evidence of a bloody cow arriving. \nThe government and law enforcement agencies should be aiding animal rights groups to reach safety agreements to bear witness peacefully – not taking away their rights and duties. \nThe proposed Bill 156 is likely to increase the risks of dangerous driving by\, according to the government’s news release\, “increasing protection for farmers against civil liability from people who were hurt while trespassing or contravening the act.” We fear this provision would enable and embolden transport truck drivers to drive aggressively\, and endanger the lives of peaceful\, law abiding activists. There have already been numerous incidents of a significant minority of truck drivers putting activists’ lives in danger. (See videos 1 and 2.) \nToronto Pig Save has successfully obtained safety agreements with Maple Leaf Poultry and St. Helen’s in Toronto but not Fearmans (owned by Sofina) in Burlington\, despite numerous attempts. See our letter and safety report re: Fearmans slaughterhouse. This legislation is dangerous and unjust. It will significantly increase the risk of death to activists. It must be stopped. \nIn addition\, the legislation could in effect shut down undercover exposés into conditions on industrial farms and slaughterhouses\, in cases where activists seek employment without disclosing an intention to “blow the whistle” on cruel and illegal conditions. \nThe Ontario government similar to the Alberta Government is attempting to fast track Bill 156 right before Christmas\, a time when many people may not be as engaged in the news. Ontarians have a right to know that animal rights activists rights are being infringed – and that this could happen to any other social justice movement in Ontario\, at any time. \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.
