SUMMARY:FurFree Toronto Disruption & Outreach
DESCRIPTION:UPDATES BELOW!!!!****** Please Read to the End. Thanks 🙂 \nIMPORTANT NOTE: This is an inclusive\, safe and anti-oppression event. FurFree Toronto does not tolerate any discrimination\, please let the organizers know if there is any discriminatory behaviour. \nWe need all of you to come out for this\, it will be a big day! There are a couple of retailers who still seem to think they can continue to profit off of the abuse and murder of animals. Let’s pay them a visit! \nWe won’t be revealing which retailers now but there will be two locations. \nThe first one will be mainly a disruption (with outside team needed for a demo while the disruption team is inside)\, this will be quick and we will move on to second location right away afterwards. \nThe second one will be both a disruption and demo/info distributing/petition signing event for the remaining time. \nPlease indicate going only if you are going. If you want to be part of the disruptions be sure to show up precisely at 1pm or earlier. \nOur meeting location at 1pm is SW corner of Nathan Phillips Square. (near Queen and the parking entrance)

SUMMARY:Mink Trial
DESCRIPTION:Animal Rights activist Malcolm Klimowicz is facing a B&E charge and a 10 year prison sentence after filming and exposing animal cruelty at 5 Ontario mink farms during a public inquiry. This is expected to be the last trial date where the defense and the prosecutor will submit their closing arguments.\nThe trial will be broadcast online at this link: (more info will be shared when it becomes available).\nhttps://www.ontariocourts.ca/scj/\nHere is a good article which covers a lot of what happened at the last court dates where both Malcolm and the fur farmer testified:\nTrial starts for Windsor native accused of breaking into mink farm to video living conditions \n“No property was damaged and not even a door was opened to obtain the footage. This charge is a gross misuse of the law. It is an attempt by the fur industry and the government to silence whistleblowers and censor how animals are being mistreated from the public. I have used my camera to open up the doors of these fur factories to the eyes of the world and now they want them slammed shut. I’m asking that you take a stand with me against animal cruelty and against censorship. Lets use this opportunity to expose the animals suffering at the Walt Freeman mink farm and across the fur industry!” \nThe public has a right to know what is happening to these animals. It should not be a crime to film and report animal cruelty to the police. \nFootage recorded at the Walt Freeman mink farm:\nhttps://youtu.be/GzHIqIOFlgI \nPlease donate to and share my legal defense fund:\nhttps://www.gofundme.com/minktrial-legal-defence-fund\nMy legal defense team is being spearheaded by Gary Grill:\nhttp://www.grillbarristers.com \nBack Story:\nIn 2017\, I spearheaded a campaign to ban fur farming in Ontario. We sent petitions to the Ontario Legislature\, the Minister of Agriculture and other key politicians. Members of our group met with and lobbied MPP’s\, and I helped organize dozens of protests at fur farms\, fur auctions\, and demonstrated against political leaders who support the fur trade.\nAs part of the campaign\, I coordinated and executed a public inquiry into the fur industry. I used a video camera to record shocking animal cruelty at 5 mink factory farms across the province. I recorded dead and injured animals\, toxic sludge pits emitting poison gas\, cages covered in feces\, and animals being fed maggot infested rotten food. The fact that these crimes were happening at 5 different farms exposed a culture of standardized animal neglect across the fur industry.\nThe videos were made public generating international media coverage and shone a big spotlight on this secretive industry. I then handed the footage over to the OSPCA in hopes they would take action to help these animals but unfortunately they have refused to act.\nThe public probe into the fur industry caught farmers red handed engaging in criminal activity surrounding negligence and mistreatment of the animals in their care. Instead of taking action to help the animals\, the police\, government\, prosecutors\, and the fur industry went on a crusade to set an example of me.\nTheir aim was to deter others from defending animals as I have done. They went outside the scope of the law and criminally charged me with B&E\, civilly sued me for tens of thousands of dollars\, and went so far as to pass animal ag bill 156 – a law designed to stop any footage of animal use industries being recorded or shared to the pubic.\nWhat I have done to help save these animals may be questionable but what the fur industry is doing to them is\ninexcusable! I stand by my actions and I’ve seen our message resound around the world in a more unified voice than ever before to put an end to the madness of fur farming. \nMore info:\nWWW.ENDFURFARMING.COM \nWatch PETA’s expose on my investigation:\nhttps://investigations.peta.org/fur-farm-horrors/

SUMMARY:Fur Free Oakville
DESCRIPTION:We will all meet at the Town Square across the street from Barrington’s at 2pm \nBarrington’s has reconsidered selling dead animal fur! Paul (the owner) came outside last event (4th event) and agreed to no longer purchase fur in exchange for us not to hurt his business further. We gave him a break last week and went to Burlington and I am currently in emails with him. I want a written contract. Not just empty words!\nThey have been around from generation to generation and were actually built on fur so if we are able to get them out- you can imagine the rest will follow! \nhttps://oakvilledowntown.com/business/barringtons/\nSO many people already signed the petition right in front of their store!\nIf I don’t get a written contract soon- We will be relocating right in front of the store again.\nThey also actually have vegan down and Paul agreed that they clearly know that times are changing and that they can still offer high quality and fashionable items without cruelty and animal exploitation. But that he felt he didn’t have enough options from the fashion designer for his type of “quality” industry.\nI will ensure to find him enough brands and solutions. If anyone has any extra ideas please suggest away! \n•••\nThere will be signs for everyone but we are trying to focus as much as possible on all having clipboards mainly focused on drawing people in for signatures to Ban Fur From Ontario \nWhile engaging with the public\, we will please engage with kindness.\nWe really want people on our side! \nOne of the easiest ways is to treat the people you interact with as if they are children (not obnoxiously!) that don’t know any better and outreach compassionately\, being understanding that everyone is at a different place in their journey and has had different conditioning based on the environment they were raised in. Make it like a game! Become a recruiter of friends!\n•••\nWe can chose to be equipped with a clipboard the petition to sign\, give some outreach cards to public\, hold a sign\, smile and wave to draw people in… etc.\nDon’t worry there are roles for everyone!\nThe goal will be to have as many interactions as possible\, handout as many leaflets and cards as possible\, and get as many signatures as we can\, maybe even recruit a few vegans while tag teaming like champs! \nLet’s make this fun! \nWe know that what is happening to the animals is really unfair\, cruel and heavy. \nSo let’s stay light for them\, for us\, for the overall energy of the group! \nWe can make a huge impact downtown Oakville!\n(The projector will not be playing this time because it won’t get dark before we are done!)\nBut we can still of course incite people to #ZipOffTheFur and I’ll bring scissors in case \nOakville is a super affluent town and if we leave some good impressions\, we will get the results we are looking for!\nCanada can become fur free before next winter!!! \nAt the end of the event\, we can all enjoy some awesome vegan food somewhere (Dar Nabati\, Community\, Lettuce Love\, Boon Burgers…) for whoever is interested

SUMMARY:Mink Trial
DESCRIPTION:Important Update: \nDue to Covid19 the entire hearing will be held online via zoom. No one will be at the courthouse but people are encouraged to contact the trial coordinator and request to watch online. \nPeople can do this by sending and email requesting to view the trial with my name: Malcolm Klimowicz\, the trial dates: Nov 30 to Dec 4\, their own name & contact information to: \nKingston.SCJ.courts@ontario.ca \nTake action! \nComment on the Global News article:\nhttps://globalnews.ca/news/3996525/battersea-farmer-accused-neglect-cruelty/\nPlease donate to Malcolm’s legal defence fund here: https://ca.gofundme.com/minktrial-legal-defence-fund \nAnimal rights activist Malcolm Klimowicz is facing a 10 year prison sentence after being charged with break & enter at the Walt Freeman mink farm. He entered that farm and 4 other fur farms across Ontario and video taped shocking animal cruelty throughout the industry. The footage generated dozens of media stories that sparked a public debate about the future of fur farming in Canada. Two other fur farmers laid charges but were defeated by animal rights lawyers. Malcolm has pleaded not guilty and will be fighting the charge at trial. In addition to being criminally charged\, Malcolm is the target of a civil lawsuit launched against him by one of the defeated fur farm owners. \nSee here: https://farmersforum.com/mink-farm-sues-videotaping-activist/ \nStand with Malcolm in court against the fur industry and against Ag Gag Bill 156. The new law now makes it illegal for anyone even if you are an employee to document or film in any location where farm animals are kept or transported. The law criminalizes undercover investigations by groups like Mercy for Animals & Last Chance for animals. It criminalizes people from even approaching animals in slaughter transport trucks. And it also criminalizes anyone from filming inside factory farms\, slaughterhouses\, or anywhere there are “farm animals.” \nThis draconian law removes all accountability from the animal ag industry and will definitely hide animal cruelty and abuse from the public. This bill must be repealed. \nPeople are invited to attend inside the courtroom to observe the trial or to stand outside the courthouse with signs. \nDefend animals!\nDefend Malcolm!\nSmash 156!\nwww.endfurfarming.com

SUMMARY:Join FurFree Toronto and Rose's Law for a Demonstration and Public Outreach
DESCRIPTION:For place to meet\, click going or interested and we will message you closer to the date. \nWear/bring a mask\, at some point we may be inside\, and you will need one for outreach as well. \nRose’s Law – Science tells us that nonhuman animals are sentient\, and justice demands that all sentient beings be protected from tyranny and oppression. For the past few centuries\, we have been expanding our conception of who deserves our care\, but we recognize that nonhuman animals still have no appropriate legal protections. \nWe ask that you support legislation giving all sentient animals: The right to be free – not owned – or to have a guardian acting in their best interest. The right to not be exploited\, abused\, or killed by humans. The right to have their interests represented by the law. The right to a protected home\, habitat\, or ecosystem. The right to be rescued from situations of distress and exploitation. \nFurFree Toronto – We believe that animals should not be used in any way; animals have the right to their own lives. We are working towards educating the public on this philosophy and about the horrors of the fur industry. In recent years many fashion houses and retailers have dropped fur and we are on a mission to make it a barbaric practice of the past everywhere. \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates

SUMMARY:Protest TIFF's Connection to Canada Goose (Part 2!)
DESCRIPTION:Join us in protesting the opening day of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) over its ongoing relationship with Canada Goose at the Ontario Place theater. For years\, PETA has provided the Toronto International Film Festival with information on the cruelty inherent in Canada Goose products to urge them to cut ties with the company because it continues to sell real fur and down. Canada Goose is a 2020 TIFF sponsor\, and has been a sponsor of the fest for years. This year\, the “Amplify Voice Awards presented by Canada Goose” will be presented to the three best feature films from “under-represented filmmakers.” Let’s get them to finally cut ties with Canada Goose! \nThis event will be one of two TIFF protests going on Thursday\, with the other happening earlier in the day at 2:30 PM: \nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/324466818660578 \nNote: We will be taking precautions to ensure safe social distancing during this protest. All activists are asked to maintain a minimum distance of 6 ft. from each other and wear a protective face mask

SUMMARY:Stop The Fur
DESCRIPTION:Please join us to raise awareness about the millions of animals who die every year for clothing and apparel. Downtown Oakville is full of very ‘high-end’ stores including Barrington’s and Mendocino which sell many fur garments. \nBarrington’s is known for the sale of fur products. \nPlease help us raise awareness about the truth behind the fur products.\nAnimals get electrocuted.\nMany animals are cages their entire life.\nAll coyotes die in traps for Canada Goose jackets.\nVarious birds get their feathers ripped out while fully conscious. \nHelp us stop this ridiculous and unnecessary suffering. \n#stopthefur\n#govegan \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:National Anti-Fur Day Toronto 2020
DESCRIPTION:Come and join Fur Free Toronto and National Anti-Fur Day on February 8th from 1pm to 3pm as we join forces with cities across the country to educate and inform the public about the fur industry and urge them to not support the industry and join us in our actions in the future. We will be congregating at the intersection of Queen and Spadina in Toronto and will get activists to occupy all 4 corners of the intersection with Fur Free Toronto cards to distribute and copies of our petition to ban the sale of fur. We will have big heart shaped posters in addition to other signage and also do feel free to be creative and make your own with captivating messages about speciesism and having a heart and not wearing fur. If you are an artist and feel inclined\, beautiful images of fur-bearing animals would be so powerful as well. \nThere is so much momentum globally with city\, state and country-wide bans on the sale of fur\, fur farming and trapping. No nonhuman should be commodified and turned into fashion decorations. In 2020\, it is unnecessary and unjust and more and more humans are recognizing this. We must keep the pressure on the industry and corporations making a profit off of mass violence. \nLet us disrupt speciesism and end violence against nonhumans\, they need us all to stand in solidarity with them. \nThis is a nonviolent event in our words and actions so please do be mindful to do your best to keep calm while being unapologetic in your advocacy. We want to indeed address the urgency involved and capture the attention of their hearts and minds for the sake of the victims. If you feel things are escalating do walk away and take some time to breath and/or find one of the organizers who will make themselves known when we assemble. \nLooking forward to seeing you all! \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:Anti-Fur Takeover- Part 2
DESCRIPTION:Rudsak is a Montreal-based company which takes pride in its “rebellious spirit” and “elegant edgy” style which is nothing more than products obtained by exploiting and murdering countless of animals for profit and fashion- lambs\, rabbits\, foxes\, geese\, goats\, and their main ‘accessory” Asian racoon dogs. \nRudsak is a member of Fur Council of Canada. \nThese animals suffer immensely on fur farms in China and Finland\, where they are routinely anally electrocuted and skinned alive! Approximately 20-30 animals are murdered per coat! \nFor this action\, we will storm as a group followed by speak out and chants! This action will be more epic than ever as we will most likely be ‘locked in’ until we are escorted out of the premise. \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:Protest Against the Use of Fur-Bearing Animals for Fashion
DESCRIPTION:Millions of coyotes\, raccoon dogs\, foxes\, minks\, chinchillas\, and other fur-bearing animals are murdered every year for their fur. These animals have their lives stolen away from them simply for a fashion statement. It is unacceptable that corporations that are responsible for driving this death trade aren’t being held accountable. It is unacceptable that the clothing made from the stolen fur of murdered animals are openly sold on the streets of Toronto. \nIt’s time to take action! \nJoin us Saturday as we protest against the use of fur-bearing animals for clothing and fashion. Dismantle Speciesism and Liberation T.O. will be collaborating to protest against speciesism in the fashion industry. \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:Anti-fur Takeover: Disrupting 2 of Canada's 'top' fur Retailer
DESCRIPTION:Rudsak is a Montreal-based company that takes pride in its “rebellious chic” and ‘elegant edgy” style which is nothing more than products obtained by exploiting and murdering animals for profit and fashion- everything from lambs\, rabbits\, foxes\, sheep\, geese\, raccoon dogs\, and leather-derived animals. \nCanada Goose is a world-leading luxurious winter outerwear that takes pride in profiting the skins of coyotes who were trapped\, killed and skinned. Additionally\, the organization has made headlines when it was accused of mistreating the geese in its supply chain which was denied by the company. Geese are forcefully restrained as their feathers are continuously ripped out as they struggle and scream. \nThese animals suffer immensely on fur farms where they are killed by gassing\, electrocution\, drowning\, neck-breaking\, strangulation\, steel tramps- all LEGAL practices in Canada! \nJOIN US as we stand in solidarity with CANADA GOOSE PRESSURE CAMPAIGN for back to back disruption! For this action\, carpooling arrangements can be made. Actions will be taking place in Etobicoke and right after we will be heading to Mississauga! \n****DETAILS & MEETUP will be discussed in few days! \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:Protest CF Sherway Gardens & Canada Goose
DESCRIPTION:Canada Goose is set to open their 2nd flagship store in Toronto inside CF Sherway Gardens. We will be protesting the mall leading up to the grand opening to let everyone know that unless Canada Goose goes 100% animal-free\, they will be a liability to those who do business with them. \nMeeting Location: Centre of the mall \nImportant Instructions: To ensure that as many people as possible get in\, we will not be entering the mall as a group. Enter as individuals or in your own small groups\, preferably earlier\, and meet at the centre of the mall at 4pm. Bring your own signs that you can sneak in if possible! Once the protest starts it will be difficult to hand out signs and banners\, as cops and security will come down on us hard. \nPlease be aware that this is a higher risk action. Last time we protested here an activist was shoved to the ground by security and the cops repeatedly shoved one of the activists holding a banner. Stay nonviolent and trust in the power of our numbers. \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates

I will be bringing PETA logo t-shirts for those who would like them. \nWHEN: Thursday\, September 5\, 5 pm to 7 pm ET\nWHERE: TIFF Bell Lightbox\, 350 King St W\, Toronto\, ON M5V 3X5 (see map: https://goo.gl/maps/buWSfRapXEYNgZ889)\nCONTACT: Tricia Lebkuecher\, TriciaL@peta.org \nThere will also be plenty of other leafleting opportunities throughout the festival\, so stay tuned! \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:Toronto: Protest Canada Goose Cruelty at their Shareholder Meeting!
DESCRIPTION:Please join local PETA supporters in protesting the use of animals in fashion outside Canada Goose’s headquarters during the company’s virtual shareholder meeting. The Canada Goose symbol is ubiquitous in cold climates\, but it represents anything but warmth. Every single piece of fur trim or plucked down used by Canada Goose comes from an animal who didn’t want to be killed. The fur trim that lines the hoods of the company’s winter jackets comes from wild coyotes who were trapped\, killed\, and skinned. And no matter where down is sourced\, birds used by the down industry are inevitably sent to the slaughterhouse where standard practice is to hang them upside down\, stun them\, and then slit their throats\, often while they are still conscious. \nPlease join PETA for a very important and spirited demonstration to speak out against Canada Goose’s use of geese and coyotes for their outerwear. \nWHEN: Thursday\, August 15 at 9:45 am to 11 am\nWHERE: Outside the Canada Goose headquarters at 250 Bowie Ave Toronto\, ON M6E 2R9 (please see this map: https://goo.gl/maps/Da4zrXWejwLt1grN9)\nCONTACT: Tricia Lebkuecher: TriciaL@peta.org \nPosters\, props\, and leaflets will be provided. Note that reserved parking will not be available\, and please be prepared for the weather. Outreach events are a fun and effective way to help animals as well as meet local advocates\, so before you go\, check out PETA’s outreach tips [http://www.mediapeta.com/peta/PDF/tips_for_PETA_activists.pdf] and be sure to invite others. All materials will be provided\, so please just bring along as many friends and family members as you can. \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.
