SUMMARY:6-Hour Fundraising Vigil for the Pigs - In Opposition of Bill 156
DESCRIPTION:REGISTRATION TO ATTEND THIS VIGIL IS NOW CLOSED!\nWE APPRECIATE YOUR INTEREST IN ATTENDING\, BUT WE HAVE REACHED MAXIMUM ATTENDANCE REGISTRATION. IF YOU HAVE NOT PERSONALLY CONFIRMED A TIMESLOT WITH AN EVENT VOLUNTEER\, PLEASE DO NOT ATTEND.\nWE APOLOGIZE FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE THIS MAY CAUSE\, BUT SAFETY IS A PRIORITY AND COVID REGULATIONS MUST BE STRICTLY OBSERVED.\nTHANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO FOR THE ANIMALS! \nBill 156 is an unconstitutional piece of legislation that threatens to take away our rights to peacefully bear witness to thousands of innocent pigs\, on a daily basis. Not only does it jeopardize our ability to offer the pigs comfort and compassion\, in their final terrifying moments\, it takes away the right for activists and journalists to expose inhumane conditions and cruelty within the animal agriculture industry. \nAnimal Justice will be taking on the daunting task of challenging this Bill in the Ontario courts. In order to assist with their fight\, this fundraiser is aimed to raise proceeds that will be donated to Animal Justice to help make this challenge possible. \nTHE TOP 3 FUNDRAISERS WILL RECEIVE A TORONTO PIG SAVE SWAG PACKAGE! \nThis event will take place\, rain or shine\, so be sure to watch the weather and dress accordingly. Bring a hat\, gloves\, jacket\, blankets\, umbrella and picnic basket! (Please\, no alcohol or other recreational substances.) \nWe will be set up at the Fearmans gates\, for the duration of the vigil\, however you will have the option to bear witness from the sidewalk or from the corner of Appleby and Harvester. \nTHOSE WHO HAVE ALREADY REGISTERED TO ATTEND will be set up at the Fearmans gates\, for the duration of the vigil\, however we will also bear witness from the sidewalk or from the corner of Appleby and Harvester. Please note\, regulations being monitored and video-taped by the Regional Police are being updated on a weekly basis so a safety briefing will be mandatory for all those participating in this event. (Please see below for general safety guidelines.) \nThere will be access to a washroom during this event\, across the street from Fearmans\, at the Tim Hortons. (Yes\, they have dairy alternative almond milk for your coffee at this location!) \nHAPPY FUNDRAISING AND WE’LL SEE YOU THERE! \nSafety Notes:\nPlease do not react negatively to any taunts or aggressive behaviour from workers or members of the public. This can increase tension and thus decrease the overall safety of the vigil. Instead please return love for hate. We use a love-based community-organizing approach based on nonviolence\, love and truth as informed by Leo Tolstoy and Mahatma Gandhi. With that in mind\, ensure any interactions with slaughterhouse workers or police are calm and love-based. We will have Safety Marshals present during this event. If you feel someone is acting in an unsafe manner\, please inform one of these Marshals.\nRespect the boundaries of any coned or taped areas implemented by Safety Marshals to ensure safety.\nNever climb upon trucks or run alongside them to touch pigs or take photos/videos.\nDo not put your hands or fingers inside the trucks to interact with the pigs.\nNever approach a moving vehicle and only approach when the Safety Marshals give the ok and the vehicle has come to a complete stop.\nAt all times\, be mindful to keep a safe distance from the trucks when they are in motion\, especially when they are turning. \n**All violations\, infractions\, fines or charges applied to individuals for unlawful acts (related OR unrelated to Bill 156) are the sole responsibility of the individual. Attending the vigil and/or interacting with trucks /pigs is done so at your own risk.**

SUMMARY:An Evening with John Oberg and Thomas Goodman & Calling All Vegans Fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:Please join us in giving a warm GTA welcome to two very hardworking activists: Social media guru John Oberg and Plant Dining Partnerships President Thomas Goodman\, on the Toronto leg of their speaking tour. \nAt the same time\, please support vegan programming! This will also serve as an ad hoc fundraiser to help Calling All Vegans continue their vegan-friendly broadcasting at ThatChannel\, until other arrangements can be made. As you may know\, ThatChannel has been struggling financially\, leaving the immediate future of Calling All Vegans uncertain. They need the support of everyone in our community. \nIf you can’t attend\, please consider donating through the “Shop Now” button (leading to PayPal) found on the Plant-Based (R)evolution Facebook page or send an e-transfer to callingallvegans@gmail.com. No contribution is too small! \nFor those who haven’t yet had the chance to attend a Calling All Vegans live taping\, Sue and Alec are looking forward to sitting down for a conversation at the event with our two speakers. The interview will be live-streamed and recorded. After which\, John and Thomas will each give a presentation highlighting the initiatives in which they’re involved and outlining strategies on how activists can better advance the vegan message. \nThere will also be a pop-up food market showcasing some of our local fabulous culinary “talent” as well as the Compassion on the Streets crew serving up some delicious snacks\, available by donation\, with all proceeds going to Calling All Vegans. More details to follow. \nMEET OUR SPEAKERS! \nJOHN OBERG is a social media pro\, dedicated to making the world a kinder place for animals by strategically utilizing the power of social media. Previously\, he served as Director of New Media for the international animal protection organization\, The Humane League. Prior to that\, John served as Director of Communications for Vegan Outreach\, and he is currently a writer at Plant Based News. In his roles at THL and VO\, John oversaw social media for the organizations which led to a tenfold increase in following in both\, as well as over 1 billion impressions of content posted to these pages. In 2019 alone\, he’s had one 100 million impressions of his own posts on Twitter\, Facebook\, and Instagram. \nTHOMAS GOODMAN has been a lifelong admirer of animals\, was raised meat-free\, and later became a professional advocate for animals in 2014. He has since worked in various initiatives for animals such as corporate outreach\, federal state and regulatory advocacy\, promotion of Meatless Mondays\, leafleting across North America\, public speaking\, welfare campaigns\, community organizing\, and more for the animal protection movement. In 2019\, Thomas launched Plant Dining Partnerships\, a US non-profit devoted to providing resources to increase accessibility of plant-based food options throughout foodservice industries in all communities\, emphasizing food deserts\, highlighting competitive price\, taste\, and convenience opportunities. \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:Challenge 22+ Tutorial\, Nutrition Workshop and Book Fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for our first event…which is also our “coming out” reception! We are a new non-profit\, but comprised of old familiar faces. If you enjoy delicious vegan food and hearing information on how to be a better advocate for animals\, then this workshop is for you! \nThe main focus of this event is to promote and raise funds for the magical children’s book\, “Kiss Or Cook?”\, written and illustrated by LuLu Lotus. We believe the future of veganism is through the youth of this world\, and one of the keys to advancing this movement is to get publications like this on school\, daycare\, and public library shelves. Copies of the book will be available for purchase. \nWhether it be at a Cube of Truth or just in our everyday dealings with friends\, family\, neighbours\, and workmates\, we all want to be more effective in our efforts to promote veganism. One tool is the Challenge 22+ initiative. Karen Leeson Upshaw\, a senior mentor with Challenge 22+ and organizer for the Barrie chapter of Anonymous for the Voiceless\, will give us insight into how the Challenge works\, why it’s so successful\, and maybe even offer a few tips and tricks on how to handle some of the more common questions and issues that always seem to come up.\nhttps://www.facebook.com/ChallengeTwentyTwo/ \nDr. Julie Chan\, well-known Naturopathic Doctor and Acupuncturist from Liberty Wellness Clinic\, coordinator of the Toronto chapter of Animals Asia\, and founder of the animal activist organization\, Peace Fur Paws\, will discuss the merits of naturopathy and expound on the many benefits of a natural and holistic diet\, so that we are better equipped to inform the non-vegan world.\nwww.libertywellness.ca \nMost of us are guilty of not always making the best food choices\, so activist\, Cathy Stableford-Jaaj\, will be bringing along some yummy delights and and will be talking about overall wellness\, including raw\, healthier food choices. She will help us improve our knowledge and better equip us to discuss what we learn with others. Sampling will definitely be encouraged!\nhttps://www.facebook.com/cathy.stablefordjaaj \nLuLu Lotus\, a local vegan and author of the aforementioned “Kiss Or Cook?”\, a children’s story embracing the principles of veganism and animal rights\, will be in attendance at this event to do a reading from her book and to sign copies available for purchase. Donations will go towards buying copies of her book to distribute to libraries\, daycares\, schools etc.\nhttps://www.facebook.com/lululotusbooks/ \nWe are all aware of how we have to work with government\, at whatever level\, to effect positive permanent changes for animals through laws and policies. We are also aware of how painfully slow and frustrating this process can be. That’s why it’s vital for animal rights to be represented from within by vegan candidates…and how very important it is that we support these individuals. Vegan and animal activist\, Mike Gallay\, former — and future — candidate for Mayor of Toronto\, will be on hand to discuss his own experiences on running for office\, to answer your questions on his very solid platform\, and to talk about his plans to rally a strong team to make this goal a reality. And if we ask him nicely enough\, maybe he’ll talk to us about the book he’s writing and….potatoes.\nhttp://www.gallay.com/ \nUltimately\, we want to help our vegan activist community find our next steps and amplify our “voice” moving forward…and support those efforts. Please click “Going” so we know how many people to plan for\, because…..food. Thank you! \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.
