SUMMARY:6-Hour Fundraising Vigil for the Pigs - In Opposition of Bill 156
DESCRIPTION:REGISTRATION TO ATTEND THIS VIGIL IS NOW CLOSED!\nWE APPRECIATE YOUR INTEREST IN ATTENDING\, BUT WE HAVE REACHED MAXIMUM ATTENDANCE REGISTRATION. IF YOU HAVE NOT PERSONALLY CONFIRMED A TIMESLOT WITH AN EVENT VOLUNTEER\, PLEASE DO NOT ATTEND.\nWE APOLOGIZE FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE THIS MAY CAUSE\, BUT SAFETY IS A PRIORITY AND COVID REGULATIONS MUST BE STRICTLY OBSERVED.\nTHANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO FOR THE ANIMALS! \nBill 156 is an unconstitutional piece of legislation that threatens to take away our rights to peacefully bear witness to thousands of innocent pigs\, on a daily basis. Not only does it jeopardize our ability to offer the pigs comfort and compassion\, in their final terrifying moments\, it takes away the right for activists and journalists to expose inhumane conditions and cruelty within the animal agriculture industry. \nAnimal Justice will be taking on the daunting task of challenging this Bill in the Ontario courts. In order to assist with their fight\, this fundraiser is aimed to raise proceeds that will be donated to Animal Justice to help make this challenge possible. \nTHE TOP 3 FUNDRAISERS WILL RECEIVE A TORONTO PIG SAVE SWAG PACKAGE! \nThis event will take place\, rain or shine\, so be sure to watch the weather and dress accordingly. Bring a hat\, gloves\, jacket\, blankets\, umbrella and picnic basket! (Please\, no alcohol or other recreational substances.) \nWe will be set up at the Fearmans gates\, for the duration of the vigil\, however you will have the option to bear witness from the sidewalk or from the corner of Appleby and Harvester. \nTHOSE WHO HAVE ALREADY REGISTERED TO ATTEND will be set up at the Fearmans gates\, for the duration of the vigil\, however we will also bear witness from the sidewalk or from the corner of Appleby and Harvester. Please note\, regulations being monitored and video-taped by the Regional Police are being updated on a weekly basis so a safety briefing will be mandatory for all those participating in this event. (Please see below for general safety guidelines.) \nThere will be access to a washroom during this event\, across the street from Fearmans\, at the Tim Hortons. (Yes\, they have dairy alternative almond milk for your coffee at this location!) \nHAPPY FUNDRAISING AND WE’LL SEE YOU THERE! \nSafety Notes:\nPlease do not react negatively to any taunts or aggressive behaviour from workers or members of the public. This can increase tension and thus decrease the overall safety of the vigil. Instead please return love for hate. We use a love-based community-organizing approach based on nonviolence\, love and truth as informed by Leo Tolstoy and Mahatma Gandhi. With that in mind\, ensure any interactions with slaughterhouse workers or police are calm and love-based. We will have Safety Marshals present during this event. If you feel someone is acting in an unsafe manner\, please inform one of these Marshals.\nRespect the boundaries of any coned or taped areas implemented by Safety Marshals to ensure safety.\nNever climb upon trucks or run alongside them to touch pigs or take photos/videos.\nDo not put your hands or fingers inside the trucks to interact with the pigs.\nNever approach a moving vehicle and only approach when the Safety Marshals give the ok and the vehicle has come to a complete stop.\nAt all times\, be mindful to keep a safe distance from the trucks when they are in motion\, especially when they are turning. \n**All violations\, infractions\, fines or charges applied to individuals for unlawful acts (related OR unrelated to Bill 156) are the sole responsibility of the individual. Attending the vigil and/or interacting with trucks /pigs is done so at your own risk.**

This gives us the perfect excuse to get all dressed up and treat ourselves to a fancy night out! \nDinner guests will enjoy an exquisite 3 course meal of authentic Italian dishes including an appetizer\, main course\, and dessert (coffee & tea included). Vegano is a bring your own wine establishment so bring your favorite drinks to enjoy with dinner. \nGuests will have the opportunity to enter a raffle and win some very amazing vegan prizes to take home!\n($5 per ticket OR 3 tickets for $10). \nGuests arrive between 6:00PM-7:00PM.\nDinner begins at ~ 7:30PM. \nTickets are available beginning Oct 6th at 9:00AM\nGold – Early Bird – $50 until Nov 1st\nPlatinum – $55 after Nov 1st \nPurchase Tickets here:\nhttps://www.eventbrite.ca/e/vegan-christmas-gala-fundraiser-tickets-75311846761 \nAll proceeds of the Gala will be donated to the #MinkTrial legal defence fund to help cover legal fees for Malcolm Klimowicz. Malcolm is scheduled to stand trial next year in Kingston\, ON and if found guilty could spend up to 10 years in prison. \nLast year Malcolm entered 5 Canadian fur farms and filmed shocking animal cruelty. The horrifying videos were shared with police but instead of helping the suffering animals\, several police departments punitively laid bogus charges against him as punishment. In addition a judge issued a gag order which stopped media from reporting on the trial and Malcolm was also struck with a civil law suit by a fur farmer for thousands of dollars. \nSimilar video footage realeased to the public in Norway lead to the country banning fur farms. Malcolm’s investigation into the Ontrio fur industry generated dozens of news stories and headlines showing the public for the first time the horrifying reality of animal cruelty on fur factory farms. \nPlease support direct action for animals and Malcolm as he fights the fur industry in court! More info about the #MinkTrial can be found at www.endfurfarming.com \nIf you cannot attend and would still like to donate\, please click on the GoFundMe link below: \nhttps://ca.gofundme.com/f/minktrial-legal-defence-fund \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

More details to follow. \nMEET OUR SPEAKERS! \nJOHN OBERG is a social media pro\, dedicated to making the world a kinder place for animals by strategically utilizing the power of social media. Previously\, he served as Director of New Media for the international animal protection organization\, The Humane League. Prior to that\, John served as Director of Communications for Vegan Outreach\, and he is currently a writer at Plant Based News. Soi Dog Foundation was set up to help improve the welfare of stray dogs in Thailand by addressing the main source of all problems – overpopulation. Soi Dog Foundation mass spay / neuter programme has sterilised and vaccinated over 253\,590 dogs and cats so far – currently averaging sterilization of over 8000 animals per month\, and has been expanded to Bangkok\, which is home to an estimated 640\,000 street dogs just in that one city alone. \nSoi Dog Foundation’s spay/neuter program is aimed at preventing millions of puppies from being born in to a life of terrible suffering\, and to changing the future for animal welfare. \nAs well\, this event will address the many stray dogs suffering in areas of Canada – a percentage of funds raised will be donated to 3 local animal rescue organizations in Canada\, for their spay/neuter programs: \n-The Canadian Animal Assistance Team in BC \n-Alberta Spay & Neuter Task Force \n-Northern Spay Neuter Campaign in Ontario \nInfo:  muttmarchcanadaevent@soidog.org \nCandace Cornock \nPresident\, Soi Dog Canada \ncandace@soidog.org \nwww.soidog.org \nSoi Dog Canada is a registered NPC in Canada\, #981179-6
