SUMMARY:March for the End of Speciesism
DESCRIPTION:Hi everyone! \nFor the third year in Toronto\, we are pleased to invite you to the World Day for the End of Speciesism! \nThis year we will begin our march at Grange Park which is just behind (south of) the Art Gallery of Ontario. Please meet us closest to Beverley Street (in the park) on the west side of the park. Please be there by 12 so we can get marching promptly to remain on schedule for the day! We will start and end at Grange Park! \nThere is parking off of McCaul Street in an underground lot for $7 (that amount was what was posted at least). The parking lot is across from OCAD and the park is just behind OCAD so it’s all close by. The park is also accessible by subway and streetcar (either Queen\, Dundas or Spadina streetcars and St. Patrick Station or Osgoode Station.\n****THE SUBWAY IS CLOSED FROM BROADVIEW TO ST GEORGE ON SATURDAY**** \nWe will distribute signage and leaflets at the park so please don’t worry about bringing your own signage so we can remain consistent in our message! \nIf possible please wear black shirts. The shirts can be activist shirts just please try to wear a black one or dark grey if possible! \nThe route for the march will take us about 1.5-2 hours depending on our pace and how many people we have. We will have 1 or 2 die-ins (where we carefully lay on the ground for a few moments in silence) and we will have the sounds from inside a slaughterhouse playing so please be mindful of that if that is something that is very traumatic for you. It’s a very powerful component of these marches. We will likely march two by two especially in the event we don’t have much space but we are hoping to march on the road.\nPlease bring water for yourself to stay hydrated throughout the march and have a hearty breakfast/brunch that morning to get your energy up!!\n***See the post on the Facebook event page for the exact route\, we will be in downtown Toronto*** \nChants for the march are in a post below! Some are posted on the signage but not all so practice them if possible and/or save them to your phone. Once we have chanted for a while you will pick them up quick so not to worry about that! \nSpeciesism refers to an ideology that considers the lives and interests of animals as insignificant just because they are of a different species. The WoDES was created to expose this harmful ideology among the public and to deconstruct the term\, which is at the root of contempt and exploitation of nonhuman animals. On August 26\, 2017\, we will be opening the door to a world where the life and interests of animals really matter. \nNonhuman animals are denied their individuality\, interests\, and very right to live. Most nonhuman intelligent beings are turned into commodities\, products and numbers. This arbitrary discrimination is at the root of all horrific practices inflicted upon most nonhuman animals\, namely: \n-eating their flesh & secretions; \n-tormenting and confining them for our entertainment; \n-using them as material for research; \n-inculcate and bolster indifference\, disrespect and injustice of other species to children; \n-disregarding wildlife by disrupting their ecosystem and destroy their habitat for our use and profit. \nSpeciesism is irrational because humans are not the only ones to feel emotions and therefore we have the moral duty to respect the lives and interests of other sentient beings who share this planet with us. \nOther than Toronto\, marches and other events are already announced in Bern & Lausanne (Switzerland)\, Auckland (New Zealand)\, Sydney & Melbourne & the Queensland (Australia) and Llubjlana & Maribor (Slovenia)\, USA and Germany\, and lectures will be done for three days in Geneva (Switzerland). Please help spread the word\, to make this event a worldwide success\, participating in revolutionizing our society for non-humans! \nOnce again\, make sure to watch for the many updates to come\, but in the meantime\, we encourage you to get familiar with our goals and demands here: \nend-of-speciesism.org \nFor unity\, equality\, and justice for all beings! \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:10\,000 Candles for Yulin Dogs and Cats
DESCRIPTION:UNITE WITH CHINESE ACTIVISTS TO END THE YULIN DOG MEAT FESTIVAL \nEvery year\, 10\,000 dogs and cats are brutally beat and murdered for meat for Yulin’s dog meat festival. These dogs and cats are often stolen from families who love them and are slaughtered with their collars still on. But we have the power to stop this. Join us on the night of June 30th\, as we support the Chinese activists leading the campaign against dog meat – marking the last day of the festival – to hold vigil for the innocent animals murderedin Yulin. Bring a candle and a photo of an animal you love. With 10\,000 people demanding the end to this brutal violence\, we could save 10\,000 lives. \nA Chinese-led team of investigators who saved dogs from Yulin’s dog meat festival will be video conferenced in at the vigil\, along with the three dogs they rescued. These investigators have seen the human tyranny over animals in both China and the United states. They have noted that we are doing the same thing here to animals that they are doing there in China. Nearly all people in both China and in the US don’t want to hurt animals\, and both countries have activists risking their freedom to help make the world better for all animals. \nThis team of investigators has also investigated farms in the USA and has found similar\, if not worse\, abuse. Like the dogs of Yulin\, animals used for food in North America and Europe are confined\, tortured and killed. Whether they are a dog\, a pig or a rat\, all animals deserve to be safe\, happy and free. \nFor those who cannot join in person\, take a photo holding a candle with a photo of a dog/cat and post it to social media using the hashtag #YulinIsEverywhere. \nSponsoring Organizations: \nThe Save Movement\nTheir Turn\nDirect Action Everywhere\nDuo Duo – Compassion Beyond Borders – 多多\nMuttville Senior Dog Rescue\nKitchener Ontario Animal Liberation Alliance\nToronto March to Close Down all Slaughterhouses\nAnimal Liberation Alliance London\nAurora’s Animal Rights Advocates\nAnnex Cat Rescue\nToronto Street Cats Spay Neuter Clinic

SUMMARY:4th Toronto March to Close Down all Slaughterhouses
DESCRIPTION:Toronto will host its fourth March to Close Down all Slaughterhouses on Saturday\, June 11\, 2016! \nOnce again in 2016 compassionate citizens will hold a march to demand the closure of all slaughterhouses and demand the end of the violence we inflict on billions upon billions of nonhuman animals who are exploited\, murdered and consumed mainly by humans. \nNonhuman animals are not property\, numbers or commodities. We must abolish the false mindset that nonhuman animals are brought into this world for human consumption and exploitation. \nMany cities across the globe will march on the same day with the same goal. The question of nonhuman animals’ exploitation is arguably one the most important question of this century; be part of the right side of history! \nWHY ARE WE DEMANDING THE CLOSURE OF ALL SLAUGHTERHOUSES? WHY ARE WE DEMANDING THE ABOLITION OF ANIMAL PRODUCTS? \nBECAUSE meat production (and other animal products) involve killing the animals that are exploited and eaten;\nBECAUSE their living conditions and slaughter cause them to suffer;\nBECAUSE eating animal products isn’t necessary;\nBECAUSE sentient beings must not be mistreated or killed; \nTherefore\, farming\, fishing and hunting\, as well as selling and eating animal products\, must be abolished. \nStay tuned for details and visit our website: www.mtcas.org \n Also: meat-abolition.org and stopabattoirs.org\n\n
