DESCRIPTION:Osgoode Hall Animal Justice and U of T Animal Justice are pleased to announce an exciting event coming up on February 26th: the first ever Animal Law Career Panel! \nWe will be hearing from: \n\nLesli Bisgould\, Adjunct Professor at the U of T Faculty of Law\, and the Barrister at Legal Aid Ontario’s Clinic Resource Office. She was Canada’s first-ever animal rights lawyer\, and author of the textbook “Introduction to Animals and the Law.” \nSuzana Gartner\, Firm Founder of Gartner & Associates Animal Law\, the first animal law firm and mediation practice in Canada dedicated exclusively to animal-related disputes. She has successfully resolved many client cases using an alternative approach to litigation. \nGary Grill\, Adjunct Professtor at Osgoode Hall Law School and the Firm Founder of Grill Barristers. A specialist in criminal law\, he defended Anita Krajnc in the “pig trial” case in 2017. \nCamille Labchuck\, Executive-Director of Animal Justice Canada\, an organisation leading the legal fight for animals in Canada. As an animal rights lawyer and advocate\, her work has exposed and documented cruelty\, and protected animal rights activists. \nThis discussion will be moderated by Ali Pester\, Associate at Silver Pennypacker Barristers\, and former Osgoode Hall Animal Justice President. \nIf you are interested in a career in animal law\, or learning more about the work that animal lawyers do through academia\, mediation\, criminal law\, or advocacy\, you won’t want to miss this event! Krajnc came to wide public attention because of her recent arrest and trial for giving water to pigs who were being transported to a Toronto slaughterhouse.\nRob Laidlaw\, founder of Zoocheck Canada.\nChantal Theijin\, Hobbitstee Wildlife Refuge in Jarvis\, Ont.\nJenny Brown\, co-founder of Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary in the U.S.\nSandra Higgins\, founder of Eden Farmed Animal Sanctuary in Ireland and founder of Go Vegan World\, one of the world’s largest vegan educational and advertising campaigns.\nMary Ting\, CUNY John Jay College\, a visual artist who explores the consumption of endangered species.\n\nThe conference is also supported by local animal rights group Niagara Action for Animals.
