SUMMARY:March For A Slaughter-Free Toronto
DESCRIPTION:Due to the increase in COVID cases Ontario has now limited public gatherings to no more than 25 people. Because we don’t know how long these restrictions will last\, and cold weather is fast approaching\, this event will now be postponed until the Spring. We have set a tentative date of Saturday May\, 1st\, and will update ASAP. \nIn the meantime you can still make a difference by signing the petition for a Slaughter-Free Toronto if you haven’t already\, and contacting your City Councillor to demand the immediate closure of Toronto’s slaughterhouses\, and an end to the daily killing of tens of thousands of animals in our city. \nMore info here:\nhttps://thesavemovement.org/toronto/\nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:Toronto-End Dog Sled Cruelty
DESCRIPTION:Join us! We’ll meet at Allan Gardens at the dog ark\, then at 1pm we’ll march to Yonge Dundas Square. \nWhy are we arranging a national campaign against the commercial dog sledding industry? They continue to deceive the Canadian Public. \nThese are the terrible injustices faced by dogs in this industry:– dogs chained by their necks during “off-season” in filthy storage fields.\n– No adequate shelter\, from the scorching heat of summer or the frigid cold of winter.\n– Dogs urinating and defacating within the confines of their chained area.\n– substandard food and dirty drinking containers\n– Minimal / no veterinary treatment.\n– No enrichment. \nSign the petition to ask the Canadian government to BAN outdoor dog chaining ➡️ http://bit.ly/sleddogcruelty \n#DoNotGoDogSledding #BreakTheChains #EndSpeciesism \nChants: \nDogs are not here to entertain\nGive them a home and break the chain \nDogs are not here to entertain us\nDon’t support the Dog Sled business \nSled dogs are forced to entertain\nSet them free and break the chain \nNo more pain no more silence\nStop dog sledding end the violence \nDog sledding\nShut it down! \nIt is legal for dogs to live on a chain\nSpeak up and say that law must change \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:Grassroots ARAs March in Toronto Pride Parade
DESCRIPTION:SAVE THE DATE for LGBTQ+ Grassroots ARAs and their allies marching in Toronto’s 39th Annual Pride Parade! \nJoin us as we march behind an Animal Rights Toronto banner promoting our grassroots community including: \nDirect Action Everywhere Toronto\nAV: Toronto\, Canada (Anonymous for the Voiceless)\nThe Save Movement (Toronto Pig Save\, Toronto Chicken Save\, Toronto Cow Save\, Toronto Fish Save\, Toronto Fur Animal Save\, Save Outreach Squad)\nClimate Vegan \nExpect chanting\, leafleting and fun! \n—————————————————\nINFORMATION BELOW IS FROM 2018 AND WILL BE UPDATED FOR 2019 \nMEET-UP LOCATION: We’ll be gathering in the staging area on Bloor St. E. between Church St. and Ted Rogers Way. (see map) If you’re taking the subway\, it’s recommended that you exit at Sherbourne Station and walk west on Bloor. \nWHAT TO LOOK FOR: If you don’t run into us wearing our fabulous AR shirts\, look for Marshals holding signs with letters. We’ll be in the “J” section. Our group is “J46”. We’re marching right behind “Aviva Canada” and in front of “Happily Ever Esther Farm Sanctuary”. \nMEET-UP TIME: We’ve been assigned an “arrival time” of 3:30pm sharp. We’ve been asked NOT to arrive early or late. There is limited space in the staging area\, so all groups have been assigned staggered arrival times. Don’t be concerned that our arrival time is after the Parade start time of 2pm. That is true for most of the approximately 200 groups marching in the Parade. The Parade starts at 2pm\, but the last groups are not expected to finish till around 6pm. \nDEPARTURE TIME: It’s hard to say\, but we shouldn’t expect to wait too long in the staging area before we’re on our way. We’re guessing we’ll start moving by 4pm\, though it could be sooner or later. It will depend on the logistics of the day. The organizers are merging marchers and floats (coming from their own staging area)\, so we need to be ready to go at any time. \nPARADE ROUTE: We will march west on Bloor to Yonge\, south on Yonge to Dundas\, then east on Dundas. The Parade ends at Dundas and Victoria. \nMARCHING TIME: The Parade route itself should take 1-1.5 hours to march\, barring unexpected delays or interruptions. The Parade committee’s goal is to finish the Parade by 6pm. \nEARLY EXIT: Most of the route is fenced-off from the sidewalks\, making it difficult to exit the Parade early. However\, if needed\, there should be an opportunity to exit at College St. \nWHAT TO WEAR: Please wear a t-shirt representing one of the four main local grassroots groups represented in the Parade… Anonymous for the Voiceless (AV)\, Climate Vegan (CV)\, Direct Action Everywhere – DxE\, and The Save Movement. SUMMARY:The Official Animal Rights March | Toronto
DESCRIPTION:UNITE FOR THE ANIMALS! \nThe Official Animal Rights March is an annual march founded by UK animal rights organisation Surge. The march began in London in 2016 with 2\,500 vegans and in 2017 the march doubled to 5\,000 vegans marching for animal liberation through London. In 2018 we’re bringing The Official Animal Rights March to Toronto to spread the message of animal liberation across the globe. \nIn order to make this march succeed\, we need your help. Invite your friends\, tell every vegan you meet\, this is the day where we unite\, where we stand up\, rise up and say no more\, not in our name. \nThe future is vegan\, but we must continue to speak out on behalf of the animals until the day that their suffering ends. \nAll details\, including the route will be published closer to the time. \nSave the date\, spread the word – and let’s make history for the animals. \nwww.theofficialanimalrightsmarch.com\nwww.surgeactivism.com \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:March for the End of Speciesism
DESCRIPTION:Hi everyone! \nFor the third year in Toronto\, we are pleased to invite you to the World Day for the End of Speciesism! \nThis year we will begin our march at Grange Park which is just behind (south of) the Art Gallery of Ontario. Please meet us closest to Beverley Street (in the park) on the west side of the park. Please be there by 12 so we can get marching promptly to remain on schedule for the day! We will start and end at Grange Park! \nThere is parking off of McCaul Street in an underground lot for $7 (that amount was what was posted at least). The parking lot is across from OCAD and the park is just behind OCAD so it’s all close by. The park is also accessible by subway and streetcar (either Queen\, Dundas or Spadina streetcars and St. Patrick Station or Osgoode Station.\n****THE SUBWAY IS CLOSED FROM BROADVIEW TO ST GEORGE ON SATURDAY**** \nWe will distribute signage and leaflets at the park so please don’t worry about bringing your own signage so we can remain consistent in our message! \nIf possible please wear black shirts. The shirts can be activist shirts just please try to wear a black one or dark grey if possible! \nThe route for the march will take us about 1.5-2 hours depending on our pace and how many people we have. We will have 1 or 2 die-ins (where we carefully lay on the ground for a few moments in silence) and we will have the sounds from inside a slaughterhouse playing so please be mindful of that if that is something that is very traumatic for you. It’s a very powerful component of these marches. We will likely march two by two especially in the event we don’t have much space but we are hoping to march on the road.\nPlease bring water for yourself to stay hydrated throughout the march and have a hearty breakfast/brunch that morning to get your energy up!!\n***See the post on the Facebook event page for the exact route\, we will be in downtown Toronto*** \nChants for the march are in a post below! Some are posted on the signage but not all so practice them if possible and/or save them to your phone. Once we have chanted for a while you will pick them up quick so not to worry about that! \nSpeciesism refers to an ideology that considers the lives and interests of animals as insignificant just because they are of a different species. The WoDES was created to expose this harmful ideology among the public and to deconstruct the term\, which is at the root of contempt and exploitation of nonhuman animals. On August 26\, 2017\, we will be opening the door to a world where the life and interests of animals really matter. \nNonhuman animals are denied their individuality\, interests\, and very right to live. Most nonhuman intelligent beings are turned into commodities\, products and numbers. This arbitrary discrimination is at the root of all horrific practices inflicted upon most nonhuman animals\, namely: \n-eating their flesh & secretions; \n-tormenting and confining them for our entertainment; \n-using them as material for research; \n-inculcate and bolster indifference\, disrespect and injustice of other species to children; \n-disregarding wildlife by disrupting their ecosystem and destroy their habitat for our use and profit. \nSpeciesism is irrational because humans are not the only ones to feel emotions and therefore we have the moral duty to respect the lives and interests of other sentient beings who share this planet with us. \nOther than Toronto\, marches and other events are already announced in Bern & Lausanne (Switzerland)\, Auckland (New Zealand)\, Sydney & Melbourne & the Queensland (Australia) and Llubjlana & Maribor (Slovenia)\, USA and Germany\, and lectures will be done for three days in Geneva (Switzerland). Please help spread the word\, to make this event a worldwide success\, participating in revolutionizing our society for non-humans! \nOnce again\, make sure to watch for the many updates to come\, but in the meantime\, we encourage you to get familiar with our goals and demands here: \nend-of-speciesism.org \nFor unity\, equality\, and justice for all beings! \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.
