SUMMARY:Vigil and Outreach for the Fish
DESCRIPTION:We will be one of 30 Save Movement chapters around the world participating in Global Fish Vigil Week. Come and join us to educate our neighbours and fellow Hamiltonians about the plight of aquatic animals. We will honour their lives. Fortinos sells live lobster so that they can be painfully boiled alive. That is in addition to many other live and dead fish sold there. Fish are friends not food. They have families and feel pain just like us. To adhere to local health regulations there will be a maximum of 25 attendees. Masks are mandatory. Thank-you for speaking up for the fish and all aquatic life! \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:No New Slaughterhouse in Toronto - STOP Tru-Harvest "Meats" Inc
DESCRIPTION:Please join us on March 1 at 12:00 PM at the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) office at 1122 Finch Ave W Unit 22\, North York for a demonstration against the opening of a new cow & calf slaugherhouse in Toronto\, and at 1:30 PM for another demo & vigil for the cows and calves arriving for slaughter at Tru-Harvest slaughterhouse at 70 Glen Scarlett Rd. \n***Due to the COVID-19 pandemic\, we request that everyone wear a mask and maintain physical distancing. If there are more than five people at the demonstration\, we will ask that everyone form groups of 5 and spread over different corners of the street*** \nTru Harvest “Meats” plans to open a new slaughterhouse\, at the same site as Ryding-Regency\, on Monday and they intend to kill 1\,600 cows per week including baby calves for “veal”. Ryding-Regency was closed in 2019 for E-Coli contaminated “meat” after the company deceived the CFIA by providing false or misleading information test results. \nWe DEMAND that the CFIA and Toronto’s City Council: \n• WITHDRAW the license to Tru Harvest “Meats” to open a new slaughterhouse in Toronto.\n• STOP the proposed killing of 83\,200 cows per year. 3.7 million cows are killed each year in Canada. Over 292 million cows and baby calves are killed globally every year.\n• STOP subjecting innocent animals to unimaginable suffering and violence. In the proposed halal and kosher slaughterhouse\, animals are not going to be stunned and will be fully conscious as they are going to die slow painful deaths. Linda McQuaig\, in a Toronto Star article\, wrote: ‘Cows hoisted upside down\, dangling from one leg\, appear to be still moving while workers tear off their skin with knives.’\n• STOP killing male calves. They are babies aged only between 1 and 24 weeks old.\n• STOP killing pregnant dairy cows. It’s obscene to learn that the majority of dairy cows going to the slaughterhouse are pregnant.\n• STOP using taxpayer dollars to subsidize these atrocities. In 2019 alone animal agriculture subsidies by the Canadian government totaled $1.9 billion.\n• SHUT down all slaughterhouses and engage in alternate safe and meaningful employment programs in the plant-based food industry for slaughterhouse workers\, making Toronto a Slaughter Free City.\n• ENACT a slaughter-free\, plant-based food policy at city-administered offices\, community centers and educational institutions.\n• ALLOCATE funding to provide plant-based foods for Toronto’s low-income communities.\n• IMPROVE the nutritional education and cooking programs for slaughter-free\, plant-based meals in city-run community centers and other educational institutions \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:Fearmans 1000+
DESCRIPTION:Fearmans has put a target on their back over the years. In addition to the obvious slaughter of 10\,000+ innocent lives every day: \n– Not signing a transport truck safety agreement with activists\n– Hiring security personnel and law enforcement to intimidate & ticket activists\n– Lobbying politicians to pass Bill 156\n– Funding “counter-protestor” groups to show up to activist events\n– Most importantly\, culpability in Regan Russell’s death \nTime to fight back where it hurts – their bottom-line. \nThis will be a recurring event. Each time it hits 1000 attendees\, the event date and time will be DM’ed to all attendees. \nWe will shutdown Fearmans for the day with 1000 people showing up throughout the day. Media will be present to document the event. Once it’s over\, we start again by amassing 1000 attendees. \nHow many shutdowns can they handle before it starts to seriously affect them? We’ll find out! \nPlease forward and share with anyone and everyone – activists\, allies\, family\, friends\, local or can travel from out of town. We need EVERYONE!

SUMMARY:6-Hour Fundraising Vigil for the Pigs - In Opposition of Bill 156
DESCRIPTION:REGISTRATION TO ATTEND THIS VIGIL IS NOW CLOSED!\nWE APPRECIATE YOUR INTEREST IN ATTENDING\, BUT WE HAVE REACHED MAXIMUM ATTENDANCE REGISTRATION. IF YOU HAVE NOT PERSONALLY CONFIRMED A TIMESLOT WITH AN EVENT VOLUNTEER\, PLEASE DO NOT ATTEND.\nWE APOLOGIZE FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE THIS MAY CAUSE\, BUT SAFETY IS A PRIORITY AND COVID REGULATIONS MUST BE STRICTLY OBSERVED.\nTHANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO FOR THE ANIMALS! \nBill 156 is an unconstitutional piece of legislation that threatens to take away our rights to peacefully bear witness to thousands of innocent pigs\, on a daily basis. Not only does it jeopardize our ability to offer the pigs comfort and compassion\, in their final terrifying moments\, it takes away the right for activists and journalists to expose inhumane conditions and cruelty within the animal agriculture industry. \nAnimal Justice will be taking on the daunting task of challenging this Bill in the Ontario courts. In order to assist with their fight\, this fundraiser is aimed to raise proceeds that will be donated to Animal Justice to help make this challenge possible. \nTHE TOP 3 FUNDRAISERS WILL RECEIVE A TORONTO PIG SAVE SWAG PACKAGE! \nThis event will take place\, rain or shine\, so be sure to watch the weather and dress accordingly. Bring a hat\, gloves\, jacket\, blankets\, umbrella and picnic basket! (Please\, no alcohol or other recreational substances.) \nWe will be set up at the Fearmans gates\, for the duration of the vigil\, however you will have the option to bear witness from the sidewalk or from the corner of Appleby and Harvester. \nTHOSE WHO HAVE ALREADY REGISTERED TO ATTEND will be set up at the Fearmans gates\, for the duration of the vigil\, however we will also bear witness from the sidewalk or from the corner of Appleby and Harvester. Please note\, regulations being monitored and video-taped by the Regional Police are being updated on a weekly basis so a safety briefing will be mandatory for all those participating in this event. (Please see below for general safety guidelines.) \nThere will be access to a washroom during this event\, across the street from Fearmans\, at the Tim Hortons. (Yes\, they have dairy alternative almond milk for your coffee at this location!) \nHAPPY FUNDRAISING AND WE’LL SEE YOU THERE! \nSafety Notes:\nPlease do not react negatively to any taunts or aggressive behaviour from workers or members of the public. This can increase tension and thus decrease the overall safety of the vigil. Instead please return love for hate. We use a love-based community-organizing approach based on nonviolence\, love and truth as informed by Leo Tolstoy and Mahatma Gandhi. With that in mind\, ensure any interactions with slaughterhouse workers or police are calm and love-based. We will have Safety Marshals present during this event. If you feel someone is acting in an unsafe manner\, please inform one of these Marshals.\nRespect the boundaries of any coned or taped areas implemented by Safety Marshals to ensure safety.\nNever climb upon trucks or run alongside them to touch pigs or take photos/videos.\nDo not put your hands or fingers inside the trucks to interact with the pigs.\nNever approach a moving vehicle and only approach when the Safety Marshals give the ok and the vehicle has come to a complete stop.\nAt all times\, be mindful to keep a safe distance from the trucks when they are in motion\, especially when they are turning. \n**All violations\, infractions\, fines or charges applied to individuals for unlawful acts (related OR unrelated to Bill 156) are the sole responsibility of the individual. Attending the vigil and/or interacting with trucks /pigs is done so at your own risk.**

SUMMARY:Protest African Lion Safari
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a protest in front of African Lion Safari on August 22nd\, 2020 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. We will be gathering on public property near the main entrance where we will hold signs and hand out leaflets to spread awareness. Leaflets will be provided but please bring a sign if you are able to. \nAfrican Lion Safari has been in operation since 1969. SUMMARY:Stop Bill 156
DESCRIPTION:Join us\, with masks\, gloves and your voice. \nThe birth of an decades old social justice movement? \nThe Ontario Government has rattled the cages of journalists\, lawyers\, and international animal rights organizations over the introduction of its ag-gag bill 156. \nCamille Labchuk of Animal Justice says: “Canada unfortunately has some of the worst animal protection laws in the Western world\, and Ontario’s ag gag bill is about to make a bad situation far worse”. \nWe will make a last in-person attempt to influence the vote which is likely to happen on June 16th. We will unfurl a massive banner outside the Legislative building while respecting the social distancing requirements of the coronavirus era. \nThe irony? The human use and abuse of animals is how 3 out of 4 pandemics are caused. Ontario’s animal farms have been documented as filthy places\, with rats and flies joining the miserable animals inside. The bill aims to silence whistleblowers\, just when their eyes are needed to protect the world. \nPlease follow these organizations that have presented to the committee:\nAnimal Justice\nAnimal Alliance of Canada\nCanadian Coalition for Farm Animals\nHumane Society International\nLast Chance for Animals (LCA)\nMercy For Animals\nRose’s Law: Canada Animal Bill of Rights Pressure Campaign\nToronto Pig Save\nWorld Animal Protection Canada \nhttps://stopbill156.com \nJournalists protest: https://www.newswire.ca/news-releases/caj-ontario-journalists-whistleblowers-impacted-by-bill-156-848548545.html \nAnimal ag thinks animals don’t feel: https://www.animaljustice.ca/blog/ontario-farmers-claim-that-animals-cant-think-or-feel \nTweet storm: https://www.facebook.com/events/4132898796750180/ \nFeel free to also bring Black Lives Matters signs.

They continue to deceive the Canadian Public. \nThese are the terrible injustices faced by dogs in this industry:– dogs chained by their necks during “off-season” in filthy storage fields.\n– No adequate shelter\, from the scorching heat of summer or the frigid cold of winter.\n– Dogs urinating and defacating within the confines of their chained area.\n– substandard food and dirty drinking containers\n– Minimal / no veterinary treatment.\n– No enrichment. \nSign the petition to ask the Canadian government to BAN outdoor dog chaining ➡️ http://bit.ly/sleddogcruelty \n#DoNotGoDogSledding #BreakTheChains #EndSpeciesism \nChants: \nDogs are not here to entertain\nGive them a home and break the chain \nDogs are not here to entertain us\nDon’t support the Dog Sled business \nSled dogs are forced to entertain\nSet them free and break the chain \nNo more pain no more silence\nStop dog sledding end the violence \nDog sledding\nShut it down! \nIt is legal for dogs to live on a chain\nSpeak up and say that law must change \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:Chicken Chucking Protest
DESCRIPTION:The Kilt & Clover in St Catharines ON is hosting a fundraising event in which the corpses of dead chickens are tossed about in a curling style competition to raise money for local charity. \n💥Please join us in peaceful opposition to this horrific injustice to other animals💥 \nThe organizers claim that this is a “fun” event and it is acceptable to throw these victims of violence around because the money raised goes to charity\, and the dead bodies are fed to “rescued” tigers afterwards. How the money raised is used is irrelevant\, there is no excuse or justification to exploit the bodies of chickens…not for entertainment\, not for food…not for anything. There are limitless other options available for a fundraiser that do not objectify other animals. \nThese animals were fully sentient individuals with interests just like any of us. All that separates us from other animals is our bodies. It is not ethical to objectify and exploit others based on insignificant biological differences\, species membership is one such insignificant difference. \nAlso problematic is the idea that these tigers exploited by the entertainment industry are “rescued”. If they were rescued they would be in a sanctuary\, not forced to perform for the financial benefit of their “owner” by feeding these chickens to these tigers not only are they actively Objectifying these chickens\, they are participating in the exploitation of these tigers. \nMeeting location to be posted soon. \n*OTHER AR groups are welcomed to attend this action under their own banners if they desire. For all participating on behalf of AWFAN in this action 👉please use anti-speciesist signage only👈 any questions as to what this means please ask! \nThis is a safe space event. NO oppressive\, hateful or disrespectful activity will be permitted. \n  Updates will be posted to the Facebook event page.

SUMMARY:Emergency Rally to STOP BILL 156
DESCRIPTION:Emergency rally as Animal Ag tries to rush through BILL 156. \nShow up for the animals at Queen’s Park as the Ontario government debates Bill 156 in its Second Reading on December 10th. \nThe animal agriculture industry is fighting back\, and the Ontario government has been pressured to pass Bill 156 to criminalize the important work carried out by animal rights activists\, such as documenting and exposing the horrific realities of animal exploitation. \nWe must be present to let the politicians know that we will oppose this bill every step of the way. Our rights and freedoms depend on it. The lives of animals depend on it. Join us! \nThere will be two different ways you can participate in this action: \n1. Enter the Public Galleries as a visitor:\nPlease refer to this document for information on building access\, ID (government-issued photo identification) and screening requirements.\nhttps://www.ola.org/en/visit-learn/building-access\nIf going to the public galleries\, please check in with the information officer at the main entrance (south side of the building facing University Avenue) who will direct you. Do NOT join or meet with the protesters. Please dress professionally and just observe\, to see how the vote goes. No demonstrations are allowed inside the gallery. \n2. Protest Outside Legislative Building:\nPlease meet near the south side of the building\, just north of College Street/Queen’s Park subway station. \n

SUMMARY:Protest speciesism at Bar Isabel\, co-owner of Rosalinda
DESCRIPTION:Grant van Gameren\, owner of Bar Isabel\, is a partner in the plant based Rosalinda. How could it be that someone who knows how to cook vegan food and run a bustling restaurant that doesn’t profit from the torture of animals continue to run restaurants like Bar Isabel? Foie Gras was officially banned in New York in addition to other cities and countries. How do you feel about this? Disturbed enough to take a stand? \nPlease join us in a non violent\, peaceful protest on Friday for the animals. Homemade signs are always welcome.

SUMMARY:Protest Cruel Mice Experiments - They're Scientifically Worthless
DESCRIPTION:Join PETA to protest the cruel and scientifically worthless experiments on mice and other small animals conducted by the National Institute of Mental Health. For example: \n– The swim test where mice are placed in beakers of water and forced to swim until they drown.\n– The tail suspension test\, where experimenters hang mice by their tails.\n– The foot shock test\, in which experimenters lock mice or rats inside a chamber with an electrified grid floor and repeatedly shock them. \nNIMH director Joshua Gordon will be speaking at the Toronto Faculty Club\, and our peaceful protest is to encourage the end of these cruel\, invalid\, and tax dollar-wasting experiments. \nNIMH’s own study published in the prestigious scientific journal Nature proves these experiments do not work to help humans. Specifically\, proteins that effect neurotransmitters (e.g.\, serotonin\, glutamate\, and GABA) are not produced by the same cells in mice and humans. This means that the brain cells that communicate with each other—and the brain cells that respond to drugs meant to treat depression\, anxiety\, and bipolar disorder—are drastically different between mice and humans. 95% of drugs that test safe and effective in animals end up failing in human clinical trials. So why do they continue wasting tax dollars to fund these meaningless studies? \nJoshua Gordon has already told the scientific journal nature that “The National Institute of Mental Health has for some time been discouraging the use of certain behavioral assays\, including the forced swim and tail suspension test\, as models of depression.” He added\, “These tests in particular are recognized by many scientists as lacking sufficient mechanistic specificity to be of general use in clarifying the neurobiological mechanisms underlying human depression.” \nSigns and leaflets provided. \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:Toronto: Protest Canada Goose Cruelty at their Shareholder Meeting!
DESCRIPTION:Please join local PETA supporters in protesting the use of animals in fashion outside Canada Goose’s headquarters during the company’s virtual shareholder meeting. The Canada Goose symbol is ubiquitous in cold climates\, but it represents anything but warmth. Every single piece of fur trim or plucked down used by Canada Goose comes from an animal who didn’t want to be killed. The fur trim that lines the hoods of the company’s winter jackets comes from wild coyotes who were trapped\, killed\, and skinned. And no matter where down is sourced\, birds used by the down industry are inevitably sent to the slaughterhouse where standard practice is to hang them upside down\, stun them\, and then slit their throats\, often while they are still conscious. \nPlease join PETA for a very important and spirited demonstration to speak out against Canada Goose’s use of geese and coyotes for their outerwear. \nWHEN: Thursday\, August 15 at 9:45 am to 11 am\nWHERE: Outside the Canada Goose headquarters at 250 Bowie Ave Toronto\, ON M6E 2R9 (please see this map: https://goo.gl/maps/Da4zrXWejwLt1grN9)\nCONTACT: Tricia Lebkuecher: TriciaL@peta.org \nPosters\, props\, and leaflets will be provided. Note that reserved parking will not be available\, and please be prepared for the weather. Outreach events are a fun and effective way to help animals as well as meet local advocates\, so before you go\, check out PETA’s outreach tips [http://www.mediapeta.com/peta/PDF/tips_for_PETA_activists.pdf] and be sure to invite others. All materials will be provided\, so please just bring along as many friends and family members as you can. \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:Stop Yulin Forever - Help STOP the dog and cat meat trade!
DESCRIPTION:YULIN DOG MEAT FESTIVAL BEGINS JUNE 21ST… \nOver 10\,000 dogs — many just puppies — are killed at dog festivals in Yulin\, China and it’s going to happen all over again. \nOne of the most terrifying things about the annual Yulin Festival is that it leads to many abductions of household dogs\, cats and other pets by kidnappers looking to make a quick buck as the dog festival begins. CNN reports that local animal lovers often try to buy the dogs before the butchers can\, but the dog sellers often refuse to sell to the activists. \nThe good news is that the Chinese government is feeling the pressure to stop the Yulin Festival. According to the Guardian newspaper\, the country has started regulating the dog meat trade\, and sales dropped by a third from 2013 to 2014. Now that we have their attention on the issue\, another outcry could save these animals and hopefully shut down the festivals and dog & cat farms forever. \nLet’s stand together to STOP the dog and cat meat trade! \nOur greatest power is our compassion;\nOur strongest resource is our voice; don’t let them fade into silence.\nStand United… Stop Yulin Forever! \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:Ribfest Protest: Bowmanville
DESCRIPTION:This can be an very effective event for vegan outreach. With only one entrance (see picture in discussion) \, all hundreds (thousands?) of cars that drive in will HAVE to see our signs. There are many opportunities for outreach with people who walk in. The organizers claim 75\,000 people attended this event last year. \nWe had about 10 activists attend last year\, which was great\, but strength in numbers can really help here! \nIf transportation is an issue\, we can probably figure something out. I can definitely give rides from the Oshawa GO Station. \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:Anti-Speciesism Open House
DESCRIPTION:SPECIESISM is the belief in human superiority leading to the exploitation of other animals. MAPLE LEAF FOODS is profiting from speciesism— exploiting non-human animals for their flesh. \nMichael McCain\, the CEO of Maple Leaf\, promised activists that he wants dialogue regarding a new slaughterhouse his company is building in London\, Ontario. Despite their request that he attend an open house regarding the slaughterhouse project\, he didn’t show. Activists still attended\, however\, setting up their own booth on speciesism and advocating for chickens amongst the Maple Leaf exhibitors. \nNow it is time to bring anti-speciesism to him! We’re peacefully bringing OUR OWN open house & teach-in to Michael McCain’s neighborhood to show Maple Leaf they’re on the WRONG SIDE. \nMaple Leaf says they care about transparency\, animals and doing the right thing\, but their actions are showing quite the opposite story. \nIf they care about transparency\, where is their policy on speciesism? If they care about animals\, why do they refuse to recognize their rights to their own lives? \nIf they care about doing the right thing\, they should be CLOSING DOWN slaughterhouses\, NOT BUILDING NEW ONES. \nJoin us and show Maple Leaf Foods that SPECIESISM is BAD BUSINESS! \nWe will meet at the corner of College and Palmerston Street. \nNote: Please check the Facebook page for updates.

SUMMARY:Ivory Free Canada: Toronto Outreach
DESCRIPTION:Peaceful Demo to End the Domestic Trade Of Elephant Ivory in Canada \nRather than hosting a March  this year\, we will be educating about the domestic trade in Canada at Dundas Square. We have joined forces with Elephanatics\, an elephant advocacy group in Vancouver to launch the #ivoryfreecanada campaign. We need volunteers to hold signs and screens and to encourage people to write their Members of Parliament to ask them to ban the domestic trade in elephant ivory. If you have not done so\, please take 30 seconds to send a pre-written letter to your MP by clicking below. Add your name and address at the end of the letter and click on “Add your voice”. https://elephanatics.org/2019/02/04/ivory-free-canada/

SUMMARY:Toronto - All-Day Actions against Canada Goose!
DESCRIPTION:All-day actions with Canada Goose Pressure Campaign \nToronto-area activists\, join our 1st monthly all-day actions against Canada Goose! Together\, we are going to put a diversity of tactics into practice. \nLOCATION: Riverdale Auditorium on 2nd floor of Ralph Thornton Community Centre \n9:30AM: Doors open for setup \n10-10:40AM: Campaign Introduction Presentation + Q&A \n10:40-11AM: Break + Contacting Canada Goose \n11AM-12PM: Action planning for afternoon protest. \n12PM: Break for lunch. We need to be out of event space at 12:30 because there’s another group using it after us at 1. We strongly encourage that attendees pack their own lunches because we may need to move efficiently across the city depending on location. \n2PM-3PM: Meet at location for protest against a Canada Goose related target according to our morning action planning session. \nDebrief for protest: Since protests/disruptions tend to be intense experiences\, we will find a place for people to unwind and encourage feedback\, suggestions\, and reflections on the action\, before moving on to outreach. \n3:30PM-5PM: Campaign outreach. We will be leafleting and talking to people on the street to encourage them to take actions against Canada Goose\, while connecting/recruiting them to the campaign. Details of outreach approach\, talking points\, and goals will be discussed during the Campaign Introduction Presentation. \n5PM: General debrief. We will find a place to gather and encourage everyone to offer feedback\, suggestions\, and reflections on how the day went. People can also make dinner plans.
