SUMMARY:Chickens Are Not Commodities Demo and Vigil
DESCRIPTION:Chickens are seen as something to use for profit by Maple Leaf Foods. We will be gathering together to draw attention to someone who lives a life of luxury in the city of Toronto while plans are being made to build a slaughterhouse that will kill 480\,000 baby chickens every day in the city of London\, Ontario. \nWe will be at the first location for about an hour and a half and arriving at the second location around 8:30 PM. \nEveryone is invited to join us at both locations or choose one location to fit into your already busy schedule.

SUMMARY:Stop Yulin Forever - Help STOP the dog and cat meat trade!
DESCRIPTION:YULIN DOG MEAT FESTIVAL BEGINS JUNE 21ST… \nOver 10\,000 dogs — many just puppies — are killed at dog festivals in Yulin\, China and it’s going to happen all over again. \nOne of the most terrifying things about the annual Yulin Festival is that it leads to many abductions of household dogs\, cats and other pets by kidnappers looking to make a quick buck as the dog festival begins. CNN reports that local animal lovers often try to buy the dogs before the butchers can\, but the dog sellers often refuse to sell to the activists. \nThe good news is that the Chinese government is feeling the pressure to stop the Yulin Festival. According to the Guardian newspaper\, the country has started regulating the dog meat trade\, and sales dropped by a third from 2013 to 2014. Now that we have their attention on the issue\, another outcry could save these animals and hopefully shut down the festivals and dog & cat farms forever. \nLet’s stand together to STOP the dog and cat meat trade! \nOur greatest power is our compassion;\nOur strongest resource is our voice; don’t let them fade into silence.\nStand United… Stop Yulin Forever! \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:Ribfest Protest: Bowmanville
DESCRIPTION:This can be an very effective event for vegan outreach. With only one entrance (see picture in discussion) \, all hundreds (thousands?) of cars that drive in will HAVE to see our signs. There are many opportunities for outreach with people who walk in. The organizers claim 75\,000 people attended this event last year. \nWe had about 10 activists attend last year\, which was great\, but strength in numbers can really help here! \nIf transportation is an issue\, we can probably figure something out. I can definitely give rides from the Oshawa GO Station. \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:Anti-Speciesism Open House
DESCRIPTION:SPECIESISM is the belief in human superiority leading to the exploitation of other animals. MAPLE LEAF FOODS is profiting from speciesism— exploiting non-human animals for their flesh. \nMichael McCain\, the CEO of Maple Leaf\, promised activists that he wants dialogue regarding a new slaughterhouse his company is building in London\, Ontario. Despite their request that he attend an open house regarding the slaughterhouse project\, he didn’t show. Activists still attended\, however\, setting up their own booth on speciesism and advocating for chickens amongst the Maple Leaf exhibitors. \nNow it is time to bring anti-speciesism to him! We’re peacefully bringing OUR OWN open house & teach-in to Michael McCain’s neighborhood to show Maple Leaf they’re on the WRONG SIDE. \nMaple Leaf says they care about transparency\, animals and doing the right thing\, but their actions are showing quite the opposite story. \nIf they care about transparency\, where is their policy on speciesism? If they care about animals\, why do they refuse to recognize their rights to their own lives? \nIf they care about doing the right thing\, they should be CLOSING DOWN slaughterhouses\, NOT BUILDING NEW ONES. \nJoin us and show Maple Leaf Foods that SPECIESISM is BAD BUSINESS! \nWe will meet at the corner of College and Palmerston Street. \nNote: Please check the Facebook page for updates.

SUMMARY:Ivory Free Canada: Toronto Outreach
DESCRIPTION:Peaceful Demo to End the Domestic Trade Of Elephant Ivory in Canada \nRather than hosting a March  this year\, we will be educating about the domestic trade in Canada at Dundas Square. We have joined forces with Elephanatics\, an elephant advocacy group in Vancouver to launch the #ivoryfreecanada campaign. We need volunteers to hold signs and screens and to encourage people to write their Members of Parliament to ask them to ban the domestic trade in elephant ivory. If you have not done so\, please take 30 seconds to send a pre-written letter to your MP by clicking below. Add your name and address at the end of the letter and click on “Add your voice”. https://elephanatics.org/2019/02/04/ivory-free-canada/

SUMMARY:Justice For Avni: Toronto Protest
DESCRIPTION:*CALL FOR ACTION: PROTEST AND CANDLELIGHT VIGIL*\n*CO-HOSTS: Let Avni Live Nicole Ada\n*Signs will be provided as well as leaflets for activists to hand out\, however please feel free to create your own!*\n———————————————————\nIndia is home to 57% of the World’s 3\,890 tigers. \nLet that number sink in. LESS than 4\,000 wild tigers are left on this planet. \nThese captivating wild cats are not only an endangered species\, but they play a crucial role in the health and diversity of the ecosystems they reside in. \nAvni\, is a young tigress\, mother to two beautiful 9-month-old cubs. They reside in the forest of Pandharkawda\, in the State of Maharashtra\, India. \nDID YOU KNOW India’s NATIONAL ANIMAL is a TIGER? \nAvni and her children are in CRITICAL DANGER because they are being hunted down! \nThis tigress has been deemed a “man eater” by the state government of Maharashtra who has allegedly killed “13 human beings.” \nNot only has the government assigned notorious private hunters\, armed with tranquilizers and guns to find Avni – but they are also exploiting and using animals like elephants\, horses\, and dogs to assist them in invading HER territory to KILL her on sight. \nThe plight of Avni is not just about her; it’s about the blatant disregard toward ALL WILDLIFE. ALL life forms including tigers are interlinked with each other within an ecosystem\, and their survival is completely dependent on how intact the ecosystem is. \nHuman beings and wild animals CAN co-exist peacefully\, however when human beings kill them\, destroy their natural habitats\, or wandering into THEIR territories\, the survival of those wild animals is threatened greatly. \nKilling Avni would be an absolutely unnecessary and DISGRACEFUL act of murder and cruelty committed by the Government who is supposed to PROTECT ALL WILDLIFE in its country. The Maharashtra Forest Department is sacrificing SO many lives JUST to prioritize human lives. This CAN be changed. \nThe impact of killing Avni could also possibly affect the future generations to come\, AND it could impact the population of tigers on a global scale. This could also damage the economy. \nDID YOU KNOW: “In India\, more than 350 rivers originate from tiger reserves. These reserves also segregate carbon\, provide oxygen and slowly release ground water to regulate floods. Protecting the tiger will in turn protect these vital habitats.” (David Shepherd\, Tiger Time) \nTigers are meant to be revered and revered as they are a sacred symbol in Hindu religion and culture. They symbolize fierceness\, power and elegance. We MUST use our voices to FIGHT for them. \nWe are asking you to PLEASE support this campaign to PUSH for JUSTICE FOR AVNI\, and ALL wildlife we share this Planet with. \nIf we don’t act now\, then these magnificent beings will merely remain as a memory for future generations to come. \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.\n——————————————————\n*IMPORTANT LINKS* \nOFFICIAL PETITION:\nhttps://www.change.org/p/president-of-india-save-avni-the-tigress-and-her-two-cubs-from-death?recruiter=21411309&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=facebook&utm_campaign=share_petition \nLET AVNI LIVE FB PAGE:\nhttps://www.facebook.com/LetAvniLive/ \nWEBSITES:\nhttps://helpanimalsindia.org\nhttps://bigcatrescue.org/avni/?amp

SUMMARY:Stop Sled Dog Cruelty
DESCRIPTION:Something terrible is happening to dogs right now in Ontario. \nDisturbing new video footage shot outside of a sled dog facility shows about 200 dogs tied to short chains outdoors in almost 40 degree weather. These dogs have only plastic barrels for shelter and no relief from the scorching summer heat. \nThis is how the sled dog industry treats its dogs. \nWhen sled dogs aren’t being used to pull sleds\, they live outside at the end of a chain. Dogs are denied the ability to play and socialize\, and must eat\, sleep and eliminate in the same small area. \nTAKE ACTION\nExtreme weather is dangerous for pets—which is why animal care experts encourage Canadians to keep pets indoors when conditions can pose a risk. But the sled dog industry is unregulated\, and leaves dogs outdoors 24/7\, even in harsh temperatures. \nIt’s unacceptable that in Ontario and most provinces\, it’s legal to keep dogs chained outdoors. \nThis will be our initial dog sledding event. There will be more to come \nThis is an informative demonstration in front of the Eaton’s centre Sunday Aug 5. There will be a bigger action at another time. \nPeta will be providing some posters but please feel free to\nmake your own as there might not be enough. \n“Animals/dogs are not for your entertainment” \n“Release the chains” \nDogs are forced to work!\nIf they are too slow or injured they are shot. \n“Dogs suffer in the heat and suffer in the cold” \n“Dog sledding must stop” \nAnd whatever else your creative minds can come up with. \nWe also will need people to get the petition signed.\nPlease sign and share the petition that is found in the discussion area of this event. \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:Speciesism awareness\, a duck is a dog is a deer
DESCRIPTION:Please join us at Antler located at 1454 Dundas St W to educate the public about speciesism\, to debunk the myth that killing the animals at Antler is ethical and humane\, to protest Antler who makes these ethical claims. Antler won’t put our speciesism sign in their window therefore we won’t go away. Last week we spoke to a hunter who was angry at chef Michael Hunter for misleading the public by calling the farmed animals on his menu wild\, the hunter also admitted to feeling badly every time he (admittedly) unnecessarily kills an animal. Come join us to educate and protest! \nWe have the signs\, we have the literature\, we just need you. \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:SHOWDOWN IN OLDTOWN
DESCRIPTION:**SHOWDOWN IN OLD TOWN** \nPlease join us in protesting the horse carriages in NOTL. \nWe have released countless videos of poor behaviour by the carriage operators in Niagara on the lake. What we caught this past weekend was by far the worst… \nMaking a false police report with the intent to lay false charges against an innocent activist. MULTIPLE serious highway traffic act infractions and borderline criminal harassment by the owner of the carriages against an innocent woman. \nDespite all this solid evidence\, there are a large group of townspeople supporting this company and its owner despite her actions. Enough is enough. Her supporters plan to counter protest against us\, they object to our peaceful protest and exercising of our constitutional rights…the showdown has begun… \nThe forces of Anti-Speciesism and supporters of exploitation and oppression are set to square off in the heart of old town…a showdown reminiscent of an old western movie…will you be there? What side are you on? \nJOIN US\, STAND AGAINST SPECIESISM. \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:James Aspey to Protest Cruel ITR Labs (Montreal)
DESCRIPTION:Renowned animal liberation activist James Aspey is joining us to protest Montreal’s cruel ITR Labs on July 15. Check out the event page for schedule updates: https://www.facebook.com/events/485294898560639/?active_tab=about \n?James\, who gained worldwide fame after taking a 365-day vow of silence to raise awareness for oppressed animals and promote veganism\, will lend his voice to protest ITR Labs\, where animals are poisoned in cruel tests. \n? Undercover footage by Last Chance for Animals reveals ITR’s torture of puppies\, piglets and monkeys\, who\, along with rabbits\, rats and mice\, are force-fed pesticides\, industrial chemicals\, chemical cosmetics\, and other poisons\, every day: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Go8TH2yzUKE \n? The government refused to act after complaints were filed. So WE are taking action. We’re making ITR a place people don’t want to work\, by exposing ITR’s cruelty to the community\, challenging employees\, and exercising our legal right to be loud outside the torture chamber.

SUMMARY:Mississauga: Protest for Donkeys Suffering in the Ejiao Industry!
DESCRIPTION:Join PETA and local activists in urging Beijing Tong Ren Tang to stop selling ejiao\, a traditional Chinese remedy made of donkey hide\, in their store. Donkeys are suffering from horrific abuse and dying in China so that their skin can be sold to leading pharmaceutical companies in the country\, where they’re boiled down to make gelatin for ejiao. \nA new shocking PETA expose shows donkeys standing in their own dung and urine\, with only filthy algae-filled water available for them to drink. One donkey who was to be slaughtered for ejiao was so malnourished that his ribs stuck out. Another was so sick that she couldn’t walk\, so she was dumped into the bucket of a tractor and helplessly hauled away. Workers confided to an investigator that they were concerned that environmental inspectors would fine the facility or shut it down. \nThere is another protest at a site on the other side of town earlier in the day too.\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/1634608686638442/\nBeijing Tong Ren Tang Toronto\n4577 Steeles Ave E\, Toronto\, Ontario M1V 4S4
