SUMMARY:Toronto Slaughterhouses Exposed!
DESCRIPTION:Outreach at the main intersection near the three slaughterhouses remaining in Toronto: Ryding-Regency Slaughterhouse\, St. Helen’s Slaughterhouse and Maple Leaf Slaughterhouse. Together\, they kill over 1/4-million animals every day!\n\n\n\nFor several years\, activists have been holding vigils at the slaughterhouses but for the most part\, the public passing through this neighbourhood have no idea that these horrible places are still operating.\n\n\n\nOn September 19\, 2015\, we changed all that! 65 of us lined the intersection at St. Clair and Keele holding signs that named and pointed to the slaughterhouses and demanded an end to the killing. The response was overwhelming! Once they knew the truth\, people honked\, waved\, gave thumbs up\, and peace signs. They took leaflets and asked questions.\n\n\n\nWe are here to continue this presence every Tuesday morning from 8:30 – 9:30 am\, right before the weekly Cow Vigil with The Save movement: https://www.facebook.com/events/405082999901331/\n\n\n\nMore and more people are becoming aware of the nightmare for animals ‘Just Around the Corner’.\n\n\n\n\n\nOur goal is simple – to engage with the public who passes through the neighbourhood\, have a dialogue about the animal death camps hidden behind the homes and stores. We believe that the knowledge of these atrocities taking place so close to home will have an impact\, asking everyone to think about the injustice behind it all and to join us in the fight to close all slaughterhouses!\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease join us!\n\n\nMeet on the SW corner of St Clair and Keele every Tuesday morning from 8:30-9:30am! Signs and leaflets will be provided\, but feel free to bring your own! We will also have chalk for chalkitivism. Bring your positive energy! Not only will you raise awareness about the suffering of animals but you will also meet incredible people.\n\n\n\nOur efforts are reaching people and making a difference!\n\n\nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:Toronto Slaughterhouses Exposed!
DESCRIPTION:Join the Save Outreach Squad to Expose Toronto’s Maple Leaf Chicken Slaughterhouse during the Save Movement/Direct Action Everywhere ‘Action for Chickens and Vigil’ this coming Monday!\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/107182159902923/ \nSCHEDULE\n3:00 – Meet up and briefing\n3:30 – Action at City Hall\n4:30 – March including Disruption\n7:30 – Rara‘s amazing food followed by Chicken Vigil \nThe action will begin at City Hall as we challenge the city’s proposal to allow backyard chickens. We will then march 10 km to Maple Leaf Chicken Slaughterhouse to bear witness and expose the injustice to the public. Thousands of commuters pass through the neighbourhood and/or shop at the Metro grocery store regularly\, completely oblivious to the torture and abuse happening just moments away. Our goal is to allow them to ‘bear witness’ with us\, through images and literature and forever associate this neighbourhood with suffering and injustice. If you haven’t signed the petition\, please do and share widely! \nhttps://www.change.org/p/mayor-tory-toronto-ca-say-no-to-backyard-chickens \nMany of you have asked why there hasn’t been a Saturday version of Toronto Slaughterhouse Exposed for a couple of months…it is because so many things are happening in the GTA on weekends these days that need our support. For instance\, there are ribfests happening every weekend throughout the GTA\, and SOS encourages everyone to please do at least one shift at one of these horrific events. https://www.google.ca/amp/www.todocanada.ca/ribfests-greater-toronto-area/amp/ \nWe will return to our monthly Saturday outreach events in the Fall:) \nHope to see you all on Monday – come for any amount if time you can:) \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:No Spare Ribs Toronto Beaches Rib Fest Challenge
DESCRIPTION:Join the Save Outreach Squad at The Toronto Beaches Ribfest to challenge the normalization of festivals that celebrate the murder of animals. Using provocative banners and signs\, Virtual Reality goggles\, and informative leaflets\, we will invite the public to bear witness to the suffering involved in their ‘fun-filled’ festival and ask them to consider veganism. Every volunteer will receive a free Toronto Pig Save t-shirt to wear at the event! Please note that this is just one of at least 35 Ribfests that will take place over the summer and the t-shirt offer is for all Ribfests. If every activist is willing to commit to at least ONE shift at ONE ribfest\, we can have a strong presence at most of these horror fests! Check the calendar of Ribfests to see which one(s) work best for you and keep an eye out for the official event invitation: \nhttps://www.google.ca/amp/www.todocanada.ca/ribfests-greater-toronto-area/amp/ \nIf the Beaches Ribfest is the one for you\, please indicate in the ‘posts’ section what day and shift you are able to do and your t-shirt size! \nBeaches Ribfest hours: \nFriday June 16: 3-11 pm\nSaturday June 17: 12-11 pm\nSunday June 18: 12-8 pm \nPhoto credit: Meaghan Ellis \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:Protest Scadding Court's Fish Massacre
DESCRIPTION:Join Toronto activists\, in conjunction with PETA for a variety of actions related to Scadding Court’s Gone Fishin’ event taking place all this week. Thanks to all of you for phoning in to the community centre\, rating and reviewing it\, and commenting on BlogTO\, and protesting at the site. Yesterday\, the event opened with 25 chalk messages all around the community centre. Executive Director\, Kevin Lee\, himself was seen scrubbing off the huge message at the entrance. \nPressure has already been applied but our goal is to get some guarantee that this will be the last year for Gone Fishin’. This week’s actions will include protests as hundreds of school children will attend the event with their teachers. Images of Nemo and Dory will appeal to the kids with messages asking them not to kill their fish friends. We also plan a visit to the office of City Councillor Joe Cressy who has so far refused to meet with us. \nHere is a schedule for this week:\n Tuesday 10:00-1:30 Outreach/protest\nWednesday 9:30-1:30 Outreach/protest\nThursday 9:30-1:30 Outreach/protest\nFriday 9:30-1:30 Outreach/protest\nSaturday: TBA \nI am committed to a ribfest on Saturday so would love someone to offer to be a presence on this day:)\nMONDAY JUNE 19!!! TBA This is the day the pool is drained! A big action will be needed!\nPlease indicate in the comments any task you think you can do and when.\nIf you haven’t signed the petition\, please do so and share! \nhttps://www.change.org/p/mohsin-khattak-cancel-scadding-court-s-gone-fishin-event \nFor the past 14 years\, the Scadding Court indoor swimming pool has been turned into a slaughtherhouse for fish. The photo above was taken last year on the day the pool was drained and the fish who had survived the hunt\, suffocated and died in a slow\, horrific way. \nFor the past 2 years\, with the help of PETA\, we have tried to educate the public about the cruelty of fishing and appealed to the community centre to cancel the event. The executive director ‘welcomed’ our information but insisted that the program will never end. \nCity councillor Joe Cressy\, has so far refused to meet with us. We want to let him and the administrators at the community centre know that offering school kids and families the opportunity to participate in a ‘canned hunt’ is not only cruel but not the most effective way to teach ecology. \nPlease help us shut down this disgusting event and let the world know that fish deserve respect! \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:Toronto Slaughterhouses Exposed
DESCRIPTION:Every Tuesday morning from 7:30-9:30 am\, we greet commuters at the corner of St Clair and Keele with images and literature that give them a glimpse into the neighbourhood slaughterhouses. While we hope to get every one of these people to bear witness to the suffering in person\, we bring the slaughterhouses to them in the meantime. Since starting this outreach over 2 years ago\, we have exposed the existence of the slaughterhouses to tens of thousands of people. \nMost of the people had no idea what was going on just around the corner. Today\, many commuters are aware of the injustice and are hopefully being moved more and more to join us\, as activists and vegans. We are hopeful because we see the reactions to our information and we are confident that inroads are being made every day. This is what keeps us coming back – we feel empowered and hopeful! \nAs Tuesday mornings are not necessarily convenient for everyone\, once a month we meet here on a Saturday so that more people can get involved!!!

SUMMARY:Toronto Slaughterhouses Exposed
DESCRIPTION:The team that brings you Toronto Slaughterhouses Exposed has joined forces with the SAVE Movement and are now known as the SAVE Outreach Squad (SOS)! Our goal is to build a strong outreach community that will support all AR activities in the GTA! Check out our FB page! St. Clair and Keele is where we started and it will remain our signature event as long as innocent animals suffer and die just around the corner.. \nThere are currently three slaughterhouses remaining in Toronto: Maple Leaf Chicken Slaughterhouse\, St. Helen’s Cow Slaughterhouse\, and Ryding-Regency Cow Slaughterhouse. For several years\, activists have been holding vigils at the slaughterhouses but for the most part\, the public passing through this neighbourhood have no idea that they are still operating. We have continued this presence on the second Saturday of each month as well as every Tuesday morning from 7:30 – 9:30 am. More and more people are becoming aware of the nightmare for animals ‘Just Around the Corner’. \nOur goal is simple – to engage with every driver\, passenger\, and pedestrian who passes through the neighbourhood and expose them to the animal death camps hidden behind the homes and stores. We believe that the knowledge of these atrocities taking place so close to home will have an impact on the public\, forcing them to think about the injustice behind it all and join us in the fight to close all slaughterhouses! \nPlease join us!\nAll signs and leaflets will be provided-just bring your energy! SUMMARY:World Day for the End of Fishing
DESCRIPTION:The World Day for the End of Fishing calls for the abolition of exploitation\, fishing and farming of fishes\, crustaceans and cephalopods. Like all sentient beings\, fishes and other aquatic animals should be recognized with fundamental rights: the right to life\, freedom and physical integrity.\nConsideration for nonhuman animals is increasing\, but hardly for fish\, cephalopods and crustaceans. Yet\, they represent the majority (95-97%) of victims killed\, mainly for human consumption. 3\,000 billion aquatic animals are killed every year for their flesh\, while the gruesome aquatic animal trade is a global industry with no centralized database or governing body to enforce regulations or to track who gets bought and sold. We are witnessing an incredible massacre and massive exploitation without doing much about it. \nJoin us for a day of action at the St. Lawrence Market before we converge onto Ripley’s Aquarium to denounce the exploitation\, killing and consumption of aquatic animals and express our solidarity with them. We will be dedicating our presence at Ripley’s Aquarium to the late photographer\, filmmaker and conservationist Rob Stewart. \nYou are encouraged to get acquainted with the World Day for the End of Fishing and the campaign “Another Perspective on Fishes” at: https://www.end-of-fishing.org/en/wdef-and-campaign/ \n

SUMMARY:Toronto Slaughterhouses Exposed - CANCELLED
DESCRIPTION:Note: This month’s event is CANCELLED because it conflicts with the Women’s March to Fearmans \nThe team that brings you Toronto Slaughterhouses Exposed has joined forces with the SAVE Movement and are now known as the SAVE Outreach Squad (SOS)! On September 19\, 2015\, we changed all that! 65 of us lined the intersection at St. Clair and Keele holding signs that named and pointed to the slaughterhouses and demanded an end to the killing. The response was overwhelming! Once they knew the truth\, people honked\, waved\, gave thumbs up\, and peace signs. They took leaflets and asked questions. Not only will you raise awareness about the suffering of animals but you will also have fun and go away feeling hopeful that our efforts are reaching people and making a difference!

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a weekly anti-fur/down presence in front of Due West\, retailer of cruel Canada Goose and Moose Knuckles. We’ll be reaching out to people with posters\, tablets and leaflets\, and approaching fur/down-wearers \nThe campaign’s goals are to deter the buying and wearing of fur and down\, both by educating people and by appropriately challenging those who dismiss our appeals. \nSigns and leaflets will be provided\, but please bring your own if you’re able\, and please bring a tablet or laptop with footage from trapping and fur and down farms if you can. \nActivists in New York are mounting a powerful protest campaign outside Canada Goose — so let’s mobilize in Toronto too\, for the coyotes\, geese\, ducks\, raccoon dogs\, foxes\, rabbits\, mink and other hundreds of millions of animals tortured and murdered by the fur and down industries. SUMMARY:After the March - Stop Fur Purchases in Toronto
DESCRIPTION:Sat. Nov. 12\, 4:00-6:00 pm: After the march\, join an outreach team and head to Dundas Square with tablets/iPads\, signs\, and leaflets to engage the public and convince them not to buy fur OR join a DxE Disruption Team led by Mat Winton for one or more in-store disruptions in the area followed by joining up with the outreach teams at Dundas Square. \nSun. Nov. 13\, 1:00-3:00 pm: Join SOS outreach teams at Sporting Life\, Due West\, Nobis\, and Winners to Stop Fur Purchases in Toronto! \nAfter the March Against the Fur Trade on Novemeber 12\, activists are encouraged to head into Dundas Square and to the stores to challenge the fur industry! This past weekend\, activists reached hundreds of prospective fur buyers as well as some fur wearers\, outside 4 stores\, sharing the truth about the industry. The overall response was very positive with many people saying they would never buy fur and that they would tell their friends to not buy fur. One woman actually removed the fur trim from her coat once she learned the truth! Best of all\, one of the retailers complained that we were taking away their business! Please indicate how you’d like to participate in the comments section! \n#FurChallenge and #MakeFurHistory \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:Adopt-A-School Anti-Fur Outreach
DESCRIPTION:Back by popular demand!! Activists who have been participating in the high school outreach have been very encouraged by the response! So far we have reached 15 high schools in the GTA but there are many more who need to hear the truth about Canada Goose and its imitators – they are counting on young people being sucked in by the ‘cool factor’ of coats made out of the suffering of innocent animals. Our goal is simply to give them that truth. We have found that we can reach hundreds of young people in less than an hour as they leave their schools at lunch time or after school. And it’s easy because we are doing this in our own neighbourhoods so not too far to go. \nIf you are interested\, just let me (Mary-Chris) know! I will supply you with leaflets and Tom Tkach will set you up with No Fur buttons. All you have to do is find a few friends to help you and pick a day!! Lets hit Canada Goose where it will hurt them – their prospective customers!! \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.
