SUMMARY:6-Hour Fundraising Vigil for the Pigs - In Opposition of Bill 156
DESCRIPTION:REGISTRATION TO ATTEND THIS VIGIL IS NOW CLOSED!\nWE APPRECIATE YOUR INTEREST IN ATTENDING\, BUT WE HAVE REACHED MAXIMUM ATTENDANCE REGISTRATION. IF YOU HAVE NOT PERSONALLY CONFIRMED A TIMESLOT WITH AN EVENT VOLUNTEER\, PLEASE DO NOT ATTEND.\nWE APOLOGIZE FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE THIS MAY CAUSE\, BUT SAFETY IS A PRIORITY AND COVID REGULATIONS MUST BE STRICTLY OBSERVED.\nTHANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO FOR THE ANIMALS! \nBill 156 is an unconstitutional piece of legislation that threatens to take away our rights to peacefully bear witness to thousands of innocent pigs\, on a daily basis. Not only does it jeopardize our ability to offer the pigs comfort and compassion\, in their final terrifying moments\, it takes away the right for activists and journalists to expose inhumane conditions and cruelty within the animal agriculture industry. \nAnimal Justice will be taking on the daunting task of challenging this Bill in the Ontario courts. In order to assist with their fight\, this fundraiser is aimed to raise proceeds that will be donated to Animal Justice to help make this challenge possible. \nTHE TOP 3 FUNDRAISERS WILL RECEIVE A TORONTO PIG SAVE SWAG PACKAGE! \nThis event will take place\, rain or shine\, so be sure to watch the weather and dress accordingly. Bring a hat\, gloves\, jacket\, blankets\, umbrella and picnic basket! (Please\, no alcohol or other recreational substances.) \nWe will be set up at the Fearmans gates\, for the duration of the vigil\, however you will have the option to bear witness from the sidewalk or from the corner of Appleby and Harvester. \nTHOSE WHO HAVE ALREADY REGISTERED TO ATTEND will be set up at the Fearmans gates\, for the duration of the vigil\, however we will also bear witness from the sidewalk or from the corner of Appleby and Harvester. Please note\, regulations being monitored and video-taped by the Regional Police are being updated on a weekly basis so a safety briefing will be mandatory for all those participating in this event. (Please see below for general safety guidelines.) \nThere will be access to a washroom during this event\, across the street from Fearmans\, at the Tim Hortons. (Yes\, they have dairy alternative almond milk for your coffee at this location!) \nHAPPY FUNDRAISING AND WE’LL SEE YOU THERE! \nSafety Notes:\nPlease do not react negatively to any taunts or aggressive behaviour from workers or members of the public. This can increase tension and thus decrease the overall safety of the vigil. Instead please return love for hate. We use a love-based community-organizing approach based on nonviolence\, love and truth as informed by Leo Tolstoy and Mahatma Gandhi. With that in mind\, ensure any interactions with slaughterhouse workers or police are calm and love-based. We will have Safety Marshals present during this event. If you feel someone is acting in an unsafe manner\, please inform one of these Marshals.\nRespect the boundaries of any coned or taped areas implemented by Safety Marshals to ensure safety.\nNever climb upon trucks or run alongside them to touch pigs or take photos/videos.\nDo not put your hands or fingers inside the trucks to interact with the pigs.\nNever approach a moving vehicle and only approach when the Safety Marshals give the ok and the vehicle has come to a complete stop.\nAt all times\, be mindful to keep a safe distance from the trucks when they are in motion\, especially when they are turning. \n**All violations\, infractions\, fines or charges applied to individuals for unlawful acts (related OR unrelated to Bill 156) are the sole responsibility of the individual. Attending the vigil and/or interacting with trucks /pigs is done so at your own risk.**

SUMMARY:Toronto Pig Save Vigil
DESCRIPTION:Don’t turn away. Please join us to bear witness to\, and to speak up for\, the thousands of baby pigs whose lives are needlessly and violently stolen from them daily at Fearman’s slaughterhouses. \nPlacards\, leaflets\, support are provided.\n——————————- \nPlease read these vigil and safety notes prior to attending. \n☮️ Keeping Save Movement vigils peaceful. \n1) Peace:\nThe purpose of Save Movement vigils is to bear witness\, to see the reality\, to connect\, to document\, then to share with others. To bring peace to a violent space. Disruptions can take place at a different time. \n2) Truck Drivers:\nMany drivers are now (incredibly) voluntarily giving us time to bear witness. This is due to building a relationship over a long period of time. Though we don’t respect what they are doing for a living\, let’s respect the drivers for giving us this time to show the world the plight of farmed animals. \n3) Slaughterhouse Workers:\nSome workers may try to taunt (though rarely anymore). Offer a wave or peace sign instead of a negative reaction. Break the cycle of violence. \n? Bear witness on the sidewalk side of the truck (for two reasons): \n1) Stress for animals:\nWhen the pigs are surrounded\, they may panic and try to flee causing a stampede. Most have not had positive human interactions in their short lives and may see us as danger. Let’s not cause any added stress to these beings than they already have. \n2) Your safety:\nHarvester Road is extremely busy with transport trucks and other large vehicles. When bearing witness\, we are often not actively paying attention to our surroundings and tragedy could happen. \n?‍ Keep Arms out of the truck: \nWe’ve experienced a few serious injuries from vigil attendees putting hands/arms into the truck. Please avoid the temptation to reach inside for the following reasons: \n1) The truck may suddenly move\, trapping/taking you with it. \n2) Pigs are extremely large and heavy beings. Though they may not intend to hurt\, a human arm may frighten them and simple movement can crush or break bones. Instead\, offer your hand just at the opening of the truck. Some pigs will choose to come to you and sniff/lick your hand. \n3) Fear. Many of these beings have not known kind human hands in the past. This may cause them stress. \n? Moving away from the truck: \nOur awesome safety guide will blow a whistle when our time is up to bear witness. At that time we must (very\, very sadly) move away from the truck\, for your safety and to allow the driver space to back up. This is what they’ve agreed upon to voluntarily give us this time to bear witness. Not giving them the safe space may\, sadly\, break our agreement and end our ability to bear witness. \n❤️?❤️ Thank you for your understanding and for coming to bear witness and to be their voice. Please bring a friend. They desperately need you. \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:Toronto Pig Save Weekly Special ag-gag Vigil for the Pigs
DESCRIPTION:Tomorrow’s vigil will be a special vigil to oppose Ontario’s proposed ag-gag law would hide animal abuse and stop animal activism! \nDon’t turn away. Please join us to bear witness and speak up for\, the ten thousands of baby pigs whose lives are needlessly and violently stolen from them daily at Fearmans slaughterhouse. \nPlacards\, leaflets\, support are provided.\n——————————- \nPlease read these vigil and safety notes prior to attending. \n☮️ Keeping Save Movement vigils peaceful. \n1) Bear witness:\nThe purpose of Save Movement vigils is to bear witness\, to try and help and give water to thirsty animals\, to see the reality\, to connect\, to document\, to share with others\, and to expose a violent space. We occasionally disrupt trucks at all day vigils when we have the numbers. \n2) Truck Drivers:\nMany drivers are now voluntarily giving us time to bear witness after having used a very love-based approach at the vigils by talking to workers. We also have a worker helpline for those who wish to leave this violent industry. Some slaughterhouse workers may try to taunt. Offer a wave or peace sign instead of a negative reaction. Break the cycle of violence. \n3) Avoid causing stress for animals:\nWhen the pigs are surrounded\, they may panic and try to flee causing a stampede. Most have not had positive human interactions in their short lives and may see us as danger. Let’s not cause any added stress to these beings than they already have. Fear. Many of these beings have not known kind human hands in the past. This may cause them stress. \n4) Your safety:\nHarvester Road is extremely busy with transport trucks and other large vehicles. The more people who bear witness\, the greater impact we will have in ending animal agriculture. The animals desperately need you and our entire community. \nPlease Note: Sometimes we are at the slaughterhouse gate and sometimes we are at the intersection of Appleby Line and Harvester Road on the traffic median so if you don’t find us at one location\, please walk over to the other. \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:Brampton Chicken Save Evening Vigil & Outreach
DESCRIPTION:Please join Brampton Chicken Save for our weekly vigil held in Brampton\, ON to bear witness and outreach to the public. \nMaple Lodge is located right near access to busy highways 35 minutes away from Toronto. We have an opportunity to educate those around us about over 500\,000 lives that are stolen every single day at North America’s largest chicken murdering facility. \nThey are the only chicken slaughterhouse legally allowed to kill the three-year-old “spent hens” driven all the way from as far as Ohio and Pennsylvania. Join us in raising awareness and offer compassion and love to those being sent to murder. \nPARKING:\nPlease do not park on the tarmac in front of the gate\, it is the sole request of the security. At the lights right outside of Maple Lodge we have been given permission by the farmer to park our cars on the outside of his field located across the road. \nWHAT TO BRING:\n– handmade signs\n(we have some to provide but encourage you to get creative!)\n– camera/video recording device \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:5 DAY VIGIL Against Construction of New MapleLeaf Slaughterhouse
DESCRIPTION:We will be holding a five day vigil and hunger strike for the animals for the first time in Toronto. \nThis year our activists friends from Spain will be holding a similar 5 day vigil due to the opening of Europe’s biggest slaughterhouse in Binefar and we will also be standing in solidarity with them. \nThe vigil will start on Sunday\, August 25 at 540 College St. We will hold a protest and memorial for the chickens and pigs Maple Leaf Foods has killed and proceed to march to the Maple Leaf “Poultry” slaughterhouse at 100 Ethel Avenue where we will be setting camp for the next 5 days. The Toronto slaughterhouse is closing in two years and Maple Leaf Foods is currently constructing a mega chicken slaughterhouse in London\, Ontario. \nDEMANDS: \n1. We demand Maple Leaf Foods immediately stop construction of the chicken slaughterhouse in London\, Ontario #StopMapleLeafViolence \n2. We demand Maple Leaf transition to a 100% vegan\, plant-based protein company. \nMaple Leaf Foods owns plant based protein products LightLife and Field Roast. CEO Michael McCain cited climate youth activist Greta Thunberg at the 2019 shareholders meeting\, “The house is on fire!” and urged attendees to watch her speech at the World Economic Summit at Davos. At a time when we face a climate emergency\, it is unthinkable and beyond irresponsible to construct a new slaughterhouse. Rather all slaughterhouses need to shut down and food companies have to move towards a just\, plant-based food system. \nWe will be bearing witness to the chickens and cows that are going to Maple Leaf Foods and St. Helen’s and Ryding-Regency slaughterhouses in the area during the entire week. Together with other groups of The Save Movement\, we want to raise awareness about what happens in these places filled will violence and suffering\, and\, in addition stay there\, where no one wants to go\, to show the public the reality and to show the animals love\, during some of the hardest moments of their short lives. \nThe organizers will be on site 24/7. \n#HungerStrikeAgainstMapleLeaf \nWe invite vigil participants to fast for the entire week.\nIf you are not able to fast\, we still need you! We need many activists present in order to draw the much needed public attention to these places. We also encourage you to invite non-vegan friends and family members so they can see the injustice these animals face. \nPROGRAM: \nWe will have daily activities\, trainings and workshops as well as outreach at the intersection of St. Clair and Keele. Schedule to be announce in coming weeks. \nThe Save Movement is a non-violent organization. Please . read our code of conduct before joining the vigil. \nMISSION STATEMENT: \nWe hold peaceful vigils at slaughterhouses to bear witness to the millions of farmed animals whose lives are needlessly taken each day\, and to bring public awareness to their plight. Bearing witness to the living animals that we consume has a profound effect on our choices and to our attitude towards these sentient beings who are mostly hidden from public view. To witness and to feel their suffering\, to see them as the unique\, individual lives that they are will strengthen our resolve to end this cruelty. We believe that ending violence and oppression must be done with love and kindness for all beings\, regardless of sex\, race or species. \nRESPECT FOR ANIMALS: \n• Stay Calm: Animals are very sensitive to our energy. Approach truck slowly\, calmly and quietly so as not to frighten animals more than they are already.\n• Noise: Animals are extremely sensitive to noise and are already under a great deal of stress. Consider not speaking at all or\, if you must\, speak in a soft and quiet tone.\n• Flash: Avoid pointing your flash directly at the animals\, as this will further stress the animals\, only use it from the side. The organizers have a flash they will use to help you with your photography and videos.\n• Touching: Exercise discretion when engaging with and touching the animals; don’t scare them. \nSAFETY: \n• The organizers will be safety marshals and wear reflective vests\, they are there to keep attendees safe near trucks.\n• Approach truck once the organizers have finished speaking with the driver and when safety marshals signals that it’s safe. Truck drivers cannot see you.\n• Stay on the ground\, do not climb trucks. We cannot cause damage to any property as trucks or the slaughterhouse buildings\, as this will result in a fine for the organizers.\n• Bear witness on curb side of truck\, not on traffic side.\n• Don’t put arms in trucks. If truck moves or animals panic\, you can be seriously injured. \nINTERACTION WITH SLAUGHTERHOUSE WORKERS: \n• Speak to drivers\, employees\, and police with respect\, even if they do not. We are there to promote peace. We wish to maintain a good relationship with the workers\, as this may benefit us in the long run and allow us to enter the premises or save animals.\n• Resist temptation to react/respond to provoking from employees in a negative manner.\n• Oppose violence with love and kindness. We are a movement wishing to spread compassion. \nPUBLIC OUTREACH: \n• Stay peaceful and positive. Avoid temptation to respond to negative comments with negative responses.\n• In areas with traffic and by passers you can hold a sign at the road or leaflet\, when not bearing witness. If you choose not to\, please go to a designated break area so as not to detract from the seriousness of our message. Let’s make this short time speaking up for animals as effective as possible. They need us! \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:Chalktivism for the Amazon - Toronto
DESCRIPTION:Please join Toronto Climate Save\, Toronto Vegan Chalking and Liberation TO for chalktivism and other actions on 7/7 (July 7) to raise awareness of the worst deforestation on record this past May 2019. The Brazilian government in conjunction with animal feed companies is turning the Amazon rainforests into meat burgers. The 7/7 action is part of a series of monthly actions the Climate Save Movement is planning on 8/8\, 9/9\, 10/10 and so forth. Please join us. We need you! \nSchedule\n2-4: at Bay and Bloor outside the Brazilian consulate\n4-5: at Avenue and Bloor in front of the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) \nChalking ideas:\nKilling animals is killing the rainforest\nGo vegan to reforest the earth \nBackground\nMighty Earth\, a Washington DC group\, released a report called “Still at it” which points to large-scale forest-clearing by Bolivian and Brazilian farmers who trade soybeans with Cargill. Mighty Earth used satellite imaging and supply-chain mapping information from the Stockholm Environment Institute\, an environmental think tank\, to identify deforestation in Brazil where two American-based food giants\, Cargill and Bunge\, are the only known agricultural traders.\nThe group used drones to record the clearing of forests and savannas in areas where Cargill operates silos. \nReferences:\n“Deforestation in Amazon surges to a record high\,” The Guardian https://www.theguardian.com/world/2019/jun/04/deforestation-of-brazilian-amazon-surges-to-record-high-bolsonaro \nMighty Earth\, Still at it available on-line at http://www.mightyearth.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/StillAtIt.pdf \nThe New York Times has a great expose here: ”\n“A few months ago\, a representative from Cargill traveled to this remote colony in Bolivia’s eastern lowlands in the southernmost reaches of the vast Amazon River basin with an enticing offer. \nThe American agricultural giant wanted to buy soybeans from the Mennonite residents\, descendants of European peasants who had been carving settlements out of the thick forest for more than 40 years. The company would finance a local warehouse and weighing station so farmers could sell their produce directly to Cargill on-site\, the man said\, according to local residents.” \nhttps://www.nytimes.com/2017/02/24/business/energy-environment/deforestation-brazil-bolivia-south-america.html?_r=0 \nSee also the Independent: https://www.independent.co.uk/environment/mcdonalds-beef-burgers-amazon-rainforest-deforestation-cargill-bunge-a7741541.html\n“Despite the positive past steps McDonald’s has taken\, everything we know about their suppliers suggests they’re still chock full of deforestation.” \nThe report\, called Still At It\, said McDonald’s had expressed a “desire for collective joint action with its suppliers” about the problem. \nThe company had not provided information about its supply chain but “publicly available data shows that it is Cargill’s biggest customer in Europe”\, the report added. \n…In February\, The New York Times spoke to local farmers in Bolivia in the areas covered by the first Mighty report and was told by ones who had cleared forest areas that they had sold soy to Cargill.\nWhile Cargill is hardly well known\, it is the largest private firm in the US in terms of revenue. \nThe Mighty Earth report in February used satellite images\, drones and mapping information to find evidence of significant deforestation in areas of Brazil and Bolivia where Cargill and another major company\, Bunge\, buy from farmers. \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:Mother's Day March to Fearman
DESCRIPTION:We will be marching from downtown Burlington to Fearman’s slaughterhouse to show our solidarity to the nonhuman mothers that have been oppressed by a patriarchy. We aim to increase awareness and action so that all feminists include animals in their circle of compassion. Animals are forcibly impregnated over and over and again until they are ‘spent’ and then sent to slaughter. These mother’s have their babies stolen from them in order to satisfy human greed. \nPlease join us with your signs and support and show the public that mothers are mothers\, no matter the species. \nMore details to follow. \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.
