On Saturday, September 12, Toronto will stand in solidarity with cities from around the world as part of the Anti-Vivisection Global Protest to oppose animal experimentation and to demand an end to these cruel practices. Not so fun fact: over 90% of animal testing is INEFFECTIVE!
The University of Toronto Mississauga campus is home to a laboratory that conducts these unspeakable horrors on mice, rats, rabbits, guinea pigs, and fishes. This facility is called UTM Animal Care Facility and this is the perfect example of humane washing because there is no caring for animals involved, only exploitation, torture, suffering, and murder. Imagine being cut open while still ALIVE and the immense pain and agony the animals experience!
The Canadian Centre for Alternatives to Animal Methods, located at the University of Windsor (https://www.uwindsor.ca/ccaam/), is a leader in innovation and is developing, validating, and promoting non-animal alternatives via unique research, academic, and regulatory initiatives. We are asking U of T to follow suit and to make the transition from outdated, useless procedures to modern and beneficial ones. Now, during a global pandemic, itโs more important than ever to ensure the health and safety of humans and animals and moving to ethical systems is the way to achieve that.
Masks for the entirety of this event are MANDATORY. Please also follow guidelines set out here: https://bit.ly/2FvQOBT If you can wear a blue mask, it would help with the aesthetic of the event.
Signs will be provided.
