Cube of Truth: GMFER Toronto Says NO To Trophy Hunting

Trophy hunting of endangered species became a hot topic when Trump announced he was considering reversing a ban on importing elephant parts from Zimbabwe and Zambia. After MUCH outrage, Trump tweeted that he had put the decision on hold.

Did you know that Canada never had this ban in the first place? Canada can import elephant parts (and other endangered species’ parts) provided it meets CITES controls and guidelines. We believe it is time for Canada to step up its game! There are false facts claiming revenue from trophy hunting helps wildlife conservation and local communities. KILLING ENDANGERED SPECIES IS NOT CONSERVATION.

We are partnering with Cube of Truth at this special event to expose the monstrosity of killing the world’s endangered species and how Canada contributes to it. We will provide handouts for passersby with information to learn about trophy hunting in Canada. Volunteers can join the Cube of Truth or help us to hand out flyers.

The Cube of Truth is an event hosted by Anonymous for the Voiceless, a global organization specializing in street activism and public outreach using undercover footage of what animals experience every second of every day.

There are two major roles at the Cube of Truth event. First are Cubers, who stand silently in a square formation holding signs or TVs, wearing Guy Fawkes masks. Second are outreachers who interact with the public and do not wear a mask. Masks, signs and TVs are provided for the duration of the event, so all you need is to just come.

They hold up laptops which continuously screen images of animal cruelty. The goal is to make passersby feel a sense of urgent curiosity to stop, look, think, and question. The masks help viewers to feel that they can approach the screens without feeling they are being stared at by the people holding the laptops.

There will be interaction with the public when they approach with questions, but it is important to note that this is NOT a typical protest where we all gather and chant together. However, we are organizing a protest event that will take place on March 17!
