Thinking About Animals

Karen Davis, the founder of United Poultry Concerns and the author of a number of books will speak at a special evening session on March 1.

Other attending activists include:

• Ian Purdy and Anita Krajnc, Toronto Pig Save. Krajnc came to wide public attention because of her recent arrest and trial for giving water to pigs who were being transported to a Toronto slaughterhouse.
• Rob Laidlaw, founder of Zoocheck Canada.
• Chantal Theijin, Hobbitstee Wildlife Refuge in Jarvis, Ont.
• Jenny Brown, co-founder of Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary in the U.S.
• Sandra Higgins, founder of Eden Farmed Animal Sanctuary in Ireland and founder of Go Vegan World, one of the world’s largest vegan educational and advertising campaigns.
• Mary Ting, CUNY John Jay College, a visual artist who explores the consumption of endangered species.

The conference is also supported by local animal rights group Niagara Action for Animals. Sorenson points out that the group regularly engages with Brock’s efforts to explore issues related to animals, calling it “a great example of our University’s involvement with local organizations and co-operative efforts to build a more compassionate and socially just society.”
