TDSB Protest

Join Nation Rising supported by Direct Action Everywhere – DxE in demanding the Toronto District School Board stop serving carcinogenic food to children.

We will assemble outside the TDSB office at 9am. A lineup of children will be smoking fake cigarettes, and a lunch lady will be serving a heaping tray of smokes. Signs will read:

“Processed meat is a group one carcinogen is in the same category at plutonium, asbestos, and tobacco smoke – The WHO”

“Stop Serving Carcinogens to Children!”

Background

A report from the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer released in 2015 categorized processed meat (including hotdogs, hamburgers, pepperoni, and ham) as a group one carcinogen in the same category as plutonium, asbestos, and tobacco smoke:

A petition was created asking the Toronto District School Board to act on this knowledge responsibly, and in the best interest of the children by not allowing processed meat to be served at school, but it was ignored:

Email correspondence with the TDSB confirms that they are aware of the research, but have no plans to eliminate processed meat from the menu.
